Cairn has a unique opportunity for a skilled and experienced Data Architect to join our expanding IT function with a focus on centralising our Data & Reporting. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with Microsoft Synapse and Microsoft Fabric, demonstrating strong proficiency in data integration, data modelling, and ETL processes. This is a hands-on role and is crucial in transforming data into insights that help drive business decisions.
This position reports into Cairn’s BI & Data Analytics Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Data Integration & ETL Processes:
* Design, develop, and maintain ETL pipelines using Azure Synapse/Microsoft Fabric.
* Ensure seamless data integration from various sources into the data warehouse.
* Optimize ETL processes for efficiency and performance.
1. Data Modelling & Warehousing:
* Design and implement a medallion data architecture aligned with business objectives, leveraging Microsoft Fabric, Azure Synapse, Delta Lake, Python (Spark), and SQL.
* Design, develop, and maintain robust star schema data models to support business intelligence and analytics needs.
* Establish and implement data architecture, data warehousing, and data management principles, standards, and best practices.
* Ensure data integrity, accuracy, and security.
2. Microsoft Fabric Utilisation:
* Utilise Microsoft Fabric to enhance data processing and analytics capabilities.
* Implement and manage data workflows in Microsoft Fabric for optimal performance.
3. BI Development:
* Gather and analyse business and technical requirements to design effective data solutions.
* Develop using the full Microsoft BI Stack to build interactive and visually appealing dashboards and reports.
* Work with key stakeholders to define and develop analytical reporting models and data visualisation solutions to enhance business performance monitoring and decision-making.
* Use DAX to develop complex calculations.
4. Performance Monitoring & Optimization:
* Monitor and optimize data processing and storage solutions.
* Identify and resolve performance issues and bottlenecks.
* Ensure high availability and reliability of data solutions.
5. Collaboration & Teamwork:
* Work closely with BI developers, data analysts, and stakeholders to understand data requirements.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement data solutions.
* Provide technical guidance and support to team members on best practices and methodologies.
* Mentor team members, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous learning.
6. Documentation & Reporting:
* Document data workflows, ETL processes, and data models.
* Generate and maintain technical documentation for reference and reporting.
* Provide regular updates and reports on data engineering activities and project statuses.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Education:
* Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field. Master’s degree is a plus.
Experience:
* Proven experience (5+ years) as a Data Engineer or similar role.
* Extensive experience with Microsoft Synapse and Microsoft Fabric.
* Strong background in data integration, ETL processes, and data modelling.
Technical Skills:
* Proficiency in SQL, Python, and other languages for data scripting, transformation, and automation.
* Hands-on experience in implementing data lakes, data lakehouses, and data warehouses.
* In-depth knowledge of PowerBI, including performance best practices for large datasets, views, dimensions, cubes, measures, and partitions.
* Proven ability to design and deploy rich visualizations, including scorecards and dashboards, using functions like calculated fields.
Soft Skills:
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
* Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
* Detail-oriented with a focus on data accuracy and quality.
* Familiarity with big data technologies and frameworks.
* Certification in Azure Synapse, Microsoft Fabric, or related technologies is a plus.
* Candidates should have a portfolio of PowerBI work demonstrating visual and functional skills.
