Location: IrelandEmployment Type: Full-timeOverviewWe are seeking a Control Engineer to design, develop, and implement PLC/SCADA-based control systems for wastewater treatment facilities across Ireland. This role focuses on automation, optimisation, and reliability of treatment processes, supporting both new build and upgrade projects within the water sector.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign and develop PLC-based control systems for wastewater treatment plantsConfigure and implement SCADA systems for real-time monitoring and controlDevelop control philosophies, functional design specifications (FDS), and I/O schedulesProgram, test, and commission PLC systems (e.g., Siemens, Allen Bradley, Schneider)Integrate instrumentation, sensors, and field devices into control systemsOptimise process performance (aeration, pumping, chemical dosing, sludge handling)Support troubleshooting, fault finding, and system upgrades on existing facilitiesWork closely with mechanical, electrical, and process engineering teamsEnsure compliance with Irish Water/Uisce Éireann standards and industry regulationsParticipate in FAT, SAT, and on-site commissioning activitiesProvide technical documentation, reports, and user trainingKey RequirementsDegree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics, or related discipline3+ years’ experience in PLC/SCADA programming and industrial automationExperience within water or wastewater treatment projects (highly desirable)Strong knowledge of control systems, instrumentation, and process automationExperience with major PLC platforms (Siemens, Allen Bradley, Schneider, etc.)SCADA experience (e.g., WinCC, Wonderware, Ignition, Citect)Understanding of P&IDs, control philosophies, and process flow diagramsStrong troubleshooting and problem-solving skillsAbility to work on-site and travel within Ireland as requiredExperience working with Uisce Éireann (Irish Water) standardsKnowledge of telemetry systems and remote monitoringExperience in energy optimisation and process efficiency improvementsFamiliarity with cybersecurity in industrial control systemsWhat’s on OfferOpportunity to work on critical national infrastructure projectsExposure to cutting-edge automation and water treatment technologiesCompetitive salary and benefits packageCareer development within a growing engineering sector
