We are committed to quality and excellence in customer service, and we rely on our organization’s values, traditions, and our employees to achieve these goals.Nature of WorkThe Traffic Engineer supports the Office of Engineering and Construction (OEC) by performing traffic engineering duties associated with planning, design, construction and operation. The incumbent will be responsible for reviewing and conducting traffic studies, reviewing and performing design of traffic related elements, and generally supporting OEC’s Traffic Discipline. Duties for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:ResponsibilitiesReview and perform traffic design elements of highway construction projects including Maintenance of Traffic, Signing and Pavement Marking, and other Traffic Control Devices in accordance with the Maryland Manual on Uniform Traffic Control and other relevant state and federal standards, specifications, guidelines, and regulations.Conduct and/or review various traffic engineering studies.Manage crash history records, perform safety studies, and address requests for data records.Manage traffic volume and classification data collection and reporting efforts; perform highway capacity analysis and traffic engineering studies.Assist in the development of new, and/or enhancements to existing geographic information system (GIS) based tools related to traffic data and assets.Respond to stakeholder requests, as well as urgent and emergency events.Employees in this position will report directly to the Senior Traffic Design Engineer. The current vacancy exists in Baltimore, MD at the Francis Scott Key Bridge facility. May be prorated based on start date.QualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Possession of an Engineer in Training (EIT) Certificate in the State of Maryland. Evidence of certificate must be presented at the time of appointment.Experience: Two (2) years of experience performing engineering work acceptable to the Maryland State Board for Professional Engineers involving the application of specialized engineering analysis and design that includes aspects of design, evaluation, and inspection in accordance with specifications and drawings, investigation, and planning. One (1) year of experience performing planning, analysis, and/or design activities relating to traffic engineering.This statement contains a SELECTIVE QUALIFICATION, which is more focused in scope than the Minimum Qualifications for this classification.
