Job Description for Support Co-ordinator

Title: Support Co-ordinator - Midwest-South Region, Ireland

Organisation: COPD Support Ireland

Location: Leopardstown, Dublin

Reporting to: National Co-ordinator

Duration: One-year fixed term half time contract subject to annual review and funding (18.5 hours per week).

Annual Salary: €15,000

Annual Leave: 10.5 days

COPD Support Ireland was established in 2013 to support people living with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) – a collective name for lung conditions that make it hard to breathe due to obstruction in the air passages of their lungs. It is estimated that approximately 380,000 people in Ireland have COPD and it is one of the most common disease specific causes of hospital admissions.

COPD Support Ireland is a national advocacy and support organisation driven by people living with COPD, whose mission is to improve the quality of life of people living with or at risk of COPD and those who care for them.

COPD Support Ireland is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individuals for the 1 year, half-time role of Support Co-ordinator. The successful candidates will have all round skills to support the needs of our network of 60 local support & exercise groups throughout Ireland.

There are two roles currently being recruited for:

1. Midwest / South region Support Coordinator - This role

2. West-Northwest region Support Coordinator - See separate application for this

Essential skills and attributes

* Self-starter and quick learner with good interpersonal communication and diplomacy skills.

* Good organisational and administration skills with a strong ability to multi-task and effectively prioritise workload.

* Good Information Technology Skills particularly in the area of CRMs (Salesforce preferred), Zoom and other video calling platforms as well as Microsoft Office Word, Excel and Outlook.

* A third level or equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline

* Strong team player

* An appreciation of, and empathy for the issues of concern to people living with COPD and their families

* Experience in the voluntary/community sector, health sector or patient support organisations.

* Familiarity with the requirements of GDPR

* Full Clean Driving licence and ability to travel as part of the post.

* A person of integrity

Desirable

* Experience of working with multiple groups of stakeholders and co-ordinating activities

* Experience in event or group facilitation

* Experience in qualitative and quantitative analysis methods.

* Understanding of healthcare policy and delivery in Ireland

Roles & Responsibilities:

* Main responsibility is to facilitate & oversee the Support & Exercise Groups in your region.
* Be the first point of contact for all Group member queries in the region.
* To support and facilitate in person and virtual patient support & exercise group meetings nationally.
* Work with local group representatives to facilitate & provide logistical support for local support & exercise group meetings.
* Liaise with new and established education providers to schedule quarterly self management education.
* Liaise with other organisations to assist in the upskilling of our patient support group network
* Identify and set up new local Support & Exercise groups nationally by liaising with local health care professionals to identify suitable venue, trainer and members to start a local support & exercise group.
* Co-ordinate promotion of new groups and recruitment of local members through local free media and local health care professional promotion & referrals.
* To support the ongoing maintenance and development of a network of COPD patient support groups in your region that provide self-management, peer support and community-based exercise
* Liaise with exercise providers to ensure consistent, appropriate and well governed exercise programmes
* Liaise with local support group leaders to monitor the needs and concerns of groups at local level.
* To visit in person, local support and exercise groups and represent the national organisation's interests as well as bringing back input & learning from local group operations.
* To create and maintain membership records in compliance with GDPR regulations.
* To assist local groups in representing COPD Support Ireland at regional stakeholder events and building on existing relationships with stakeholders and partners.
* To assist in the development and implementation of local group campaigns such as World COPD Day that raise awareness of COPD.
* To collaborate with the Office Manager in the production of the quarterly COPD Support Ireland Newsletter.
* To collect and collate monthly & quarterly outcome measurement & attendance data from each support & exercise group trainer in your region and report monthly to the National Co-ordinator.
* To represent the interests of COPD Support Ireland at regional committees as required.
* To contribute to the design and implementation of national COPD Support Ireland Events.
* To represent the National Organisation at conferences and information stands as opportunities arise.

This role requires some travel within your region and thus the successful candidate would ideally be located in or near to these regions and is required to have a full, clean driver's licence, free access to a car and hold an appropriate car insurance policy in your own name that covers limited business travel. Pre-approved mileage will be paid by the organisation. You will also be required to submit for Garda Vetting. In addition to the duties and responsibilities listed above, the Support Co-ordinator may be required from time to time to perform other duties as deemed reasonable and necessary by the organisation. The post holder will be expected to use their initiative and be highly motivated.

This role is part-time, 18.5 hours/week. This role is Monday to Friday and is a mainly remote role with regular regional travel and some national travel. The Support Co-ordinator may also be required from time to time to work or attend training/meetings at another location or during evenings or weekends. As much notice as is reasonably practicable will be given of any such change.
