The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Mechanical Estimator to join Glanua, a leading company in the water and wastewater industry. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing analytical and precise estimates for mechanical engineering works, ensuring that all proposals are technically accurate and carry an acceptable level of risk. You will play a crucial role in the tendering process, working closely with design, project management, and procurement teams to develop cost-effective and innovative solutions that meet client specifications.
Additional responsibilities include evaluating the buildability of designs, selecting appropriate materials, identifying opportunities for innovation, providing early-stage pricing information during tendering to assist in optioneering and budgeting, and ensuring risk and governance procedures are rigorously followed.
Furthermore, you will support the development of tender preparation programmes, staff schedules, procurement plans, and maintain high standards of accuracy and professionalism.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Develop detailed and accurate estimates for mechanical engineering works based on outline drawings and specifications.
Ensure estimates reflect realistic risk levels and adhere to company guidelines and industry standards.
Engage in design development to evaluate buildability, material selection, innovative solutions, and cost-effectiveness.
Provide early-stage pricing during tendering to assist in optioneering and budgeting.
Ensure all risk and governance procedures are followed, documented, and authorised.
Contribute to the development of Tender Preparation and Tender Construction programmes.
Collaborate with other functions to prepare detailed staff schedules for tenders.
Work with central and regional buyers to prepare procurement plans, identify suppliers and subcontractors, negotiate terms, conditions, and discounts.
Prepare and send enquiries to obtain competitive quotations for mechanical engineering resources, materials, and subcontractors.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of technical developments and new methods within the mechanical engineering industry.
Apply knowledge to enhance accuracy and competitiveness of estimates.
Develop financial models for framework submissions, setting appropriate staff rates aligned with project budgets.
Utilise the standardised cost coding system for cost capture and future feedback.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical estimating, preferably within the water, wastewater, or construction sectors.
Proven track record in preparing detailed and accurate mechanical estimates.
Strong analytical and numerical skills with attention to detail.
Excellent knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and construction methods.
Proficiency in cost estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, able to work collaboratively with cross‑functional teams.
Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
