About Coolrain Sawmills:
Coolrain Sawmills manufactures and supplies a wide range of quality, FSC-certified sawn products for industries including fencing, landscaping, pallet, and packaging. Co-products such as sawdust, shavings, chips, and bark are also processed into MDF, chipboard, horticultural graded bark, and biomass for energy generation.
The Role:
We are seeking a motivated Saw Doctor to join our team. You will work closely with the Senior Saw Doctor and receive training in all aspects of saw blade sharpening, repair, and maintenance within a highly automated timber sawmill environment. This role ensures the efficiency and reliability of cutting equipment through regular assessments, repairs, and troubleshooting.
Key Responsibilities:
* Assist the Senior Saw Doctor with sharpening, repair, and maintenance of saw blades.
* Perform routine saw blade changes and inspect blades for defects.
* Sharpen and repair band saw and circular saw blades for multiple timber sawing machines.
* Assess blades for alignment, tension, and defects.
* Re-tip and sharpen saw blades using specialized automated equipment.
* Remove and reinstall repaired/resharpened blades in various saw types.
* Manage procurement, inventory, and repair of all blades across band saws, circular saws, chipper heads, planers, moulders, and trim saws.
* Analyze cutting errors and collaborate with the mechanical maintenance team to resolve issues.
* Work with external partners to develop new cutting heads for moulders to support new cutting patterns.
* Build and maintain relationships with suppliers and ensure minimum stock levels of all blades and parts.
* Enforce safety standards and ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and health and safety regulations.
* Maintain high quality standards across all production outputs.
* Participate in ongoing training and development.
* Provide flexibility to assist other departments as required.
Requirements:
* Strong work ethic and self-motivation with minimal supervision.
* Basic mechanical or engineering knowledge; experience in toolmaking, mechanical fitting, or similar is advantageous.
* Attention to detail and commitment to high-quality standards.
* Competent with PC systems for managing data, reports, and interacting with PLCs.
* Ability to work well in a team while taking initiative independently.
* Capable of maintaining focus and quality under pressure.
