Purpose of the Role
Primark is seeking a strategic and commercially aware tax professional to lead indirect tax and fiscal compliance across our global operations, with a key focus on the rollout of our new POS system (GPOS).
This role blends technical tax expertise, regulatory insight, and project leadership to ensure our systems and processes meet evolving VAT, Sales tax, and fiscal requirements across multiple jurisdictions.
You'll work cross-functionally to design technology solutions, mitigate compliance risks, and ensure fiscal and indirect tax requirements are seamlessly embedded into business processes and systems across all markets.
Duties & Responsibilities
GPOS Programme
Manage fiscal compliance for the GPOS rollout, ensuring alignment with local and international regulations
Lead requirements gathering, fiscal impact assessments, and risk mitigation strategies
Ensure GPOS supports accurate tax returns, payments and reporting
Collaborate with technology, legal, and finance teams to design fiscal controls into systems
Support the Business Delivery Lead and Programme Director on stakeholder engagement and compliance strategy
Indirect Tax
Lead VAT and indirect tax projects
Support indirect tax planning across the Primark Group, identifying opportunities and managing implementation
Advise on indirect tax implications (VAT and SUT) across business activities
Represent indirect tax in cross-functional forums and build strong relationships across the business
Support indirect tax obligations for new market entries and cross-border transactions
Compliance, Risk & Controls
Monitor regulatory changes and assess their impact on operations and systems
Review contracts, transactions, and new practices from a VAT and fiscal perspective
Manage tax authority queries, audits, and internal risk reviews
Deliver training and act as a subject matter expert on fiscal and indirect tax regulations
Promote continuous improvement in tax processes, controls, and technology
Essential
Qualified tax professional with 5+ years' post-qualification experience
Strong technical expertise in indirect tax and fiscal compliance across multiple jurisdictions
Proven ability to lead projects and influence cross-functional teams
Excellent communication skills with the ability to simplify complex tax issues
Commercially aware, detail-oriented, and highly organised
Experience in retail or fast-paced environments preferred
Proficient in MS Office; Alteryx skills desirable
