Job Title: Fire Prevention Officer
Overview
This is a challenging role within a well-known public organisation in the Healthcare sector with bases throughout Ireland. The position will be based in an office just outside of Cork City Centre, providing an opportunity to work on large public works projects.
Main Responsibilities
* Regularly inspect buildings, means of escape, and fire-fighting equipment to ensure they are properly located, well-marked, in good repair, and in good working order.
* Review and draw up fire orders, including evacuation schemes for various types of buildings and institutions, taking into account mentally ill and non-ambulant patients.
* Conduct regular and routine inspections of high-risk areas and report any breaches of the fire prevention code.
* Train staff in each premises on fire hazard avoidance, summoning the fire brigade, and operating fire alarm and fire equipment.
* Curtail outbreaks of fire, prevent smoke spread, and evacuate danger areas until the fire brigade arrives.
* Organise regular fire drills and ensure they are carried out correctly.
* Monitor water supplies to ensure they are sufficient for firefighting purposes and report any deficiencies.
* Ensure hydrants are clearly identified.
* Advise on Fire Protection Standards and Building Regulations and ensure their implementation.
* Verify means of escape to ensure they are safe, adequate, and operational.
* Maintain accurate records of inspections, fires, evacuation drills, and fire-fighting equipment.
* Submit written reports to the Engineering Manager every three months on the state of fire prevention services in organisation buildings and premises.
Required Skills and Qualifications
* Hold a Level 7 qualification in Engineering, Fire Engineering, Architecture, Health & Safety, or Building Services/Building Surveying, or equivalent qualification.
* Minimum two years' experience in a comparable Fire and Safety role.
* High proficiency/expertise in Microsoft Office.
