Join ORBCOMM as a Firmware Manager and lead our Embedded/IoT Engineering team in Galway. You will define technical direction, drive execution, and ensure seamless integration of firmware across hardware and cloud platforms to power smart devices.

What You’ll Do

* Lead, mentor, and grow a firmware/embedded engineering team responsible for device firmware development.
* Define and roadmap the firmware architecture aligned with product and business strategy.
* Oversee design, implementation, validation, and maintenance of embedded firmware for connected devices, integrating connectivity modules (BLE, WiFi, LTE, LoRa, etc.).
* Design low‑power, secure firmware with over‑the‑air (OTA) update capabilities, focusing on scalability and reliability.
* Deploy modern development practices, including CI/CD for embedded systems and rigorous test methodologies.
* Manage firmware releases, versioning, integration testing, and coordinate with hardware, QA, and manufacturing for validation and field deployment.
* Collaborate with product, cloud, mobile, and cybersecurity teams to ensure device‑cloud integration, security, and performance expectations are met.


Who You Are

* 8+ years of embedded firmware development experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership or management role.
* Strong technical background in embedded C/C++ development and real‑time operating systems (FreeRTOS, Baremetal, Yocto Linux, or equivalent).
* Deep understanding of device communication stacks and connectivity modules (BLE, WiFi, LTE/LPWAN, LoRa, etc.).
* Experience designing firmware for secure boot, encryption, OTA updates, and ensuring maintainability and upgradability.
* Proven ability to manage firmware for production devices from initial bring‑up through field deployment.
* Excellent leadership, collaboration, and communication skills, balancing hands‑on technical work with strategic oversight.
* Bonus: edge computing, power optimization, board bring‑up/debugging, and firmware CI/CD pipelines.
