Python Developer Location: Dublin (Hybrid - 3 days onsite)Contract: Long-term contract (minimum 6 months) About the Role We are seeking an experienced Senior Python Developer with strong enterprise engineering expertise to design, build, and maintain complex, scalable systems within a regulated global banking environment.
This opportunity is ideal for a hands-on engineer who combines strong coding ability with ownership, collaboration, and clear communication. You will contribute to mission-critical services across distributed systems, real-time streaming pipelines, Open Shift deployments, and high-throughput data platforms.

Key Responsibilities Core Engineering & Application Development * Develop, optimise, and maintain scalable Python applications and internal platforms * Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code aligned with enterprise standards * Conduct detailed code reviews and promote engineering best practices * Mentor peers and contribute to high-quality coding patterns
Cloud, Deployment & Platform Operations * Deploy, manage, and troubleshoot applications on Open Shift (containers, routes, pods, config maps, secrets, operators) * Collaborate with SRE and Platform teams to ensure resilient and observable systems
Streaming, Messaging & Distributed Systems * Build and support real-time pipelines using Apache Kafka (producers, consumers, schema evolution, partitioning, offsets) * Ensure reliability, ordering guarantees, and performance optimisation across distributed services
Distributed SQL & Data Platforms * Work with Starburst / Trino for high-performance distributed SQL across federated datasets * Apply strong SQL expertise for complex queries and performance tuning * Integrate applications with Hitachi S3 for secure and scalable storage access Caching & Performance Engineering * Implement and tune Redis-based caching solutions for low-latency and high-volume workloads
Delivery & Agile Collaboration * Work closely with cross-functional engineering squads, product owners, and data teams * Use JIRA for sprint planning, tracking, and workflow management * Participate actively in grooming, peer reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives Required Experience Essential Technical Skills * Strong Python development within enterprise, multi-developer environments * Experience building scalable production applications (not scripting/automation-only backgrounds) * Hands-on Open Shift production deployment and support * Practical experience with Apache Kafka * Professional Git workflows and code review processes * Starburst / Trino for distributed query processing * Advanced SQL (joins, CTEs, window functions, performance tuning) * Experience integrating with Hitachi S3 * Redis caching in high-throughput systems * Confident use of JIRA in Agile environments Behavioural & Professional Qualities * Strong communication skills with global stakeholders * Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving ability * Proactive, self-directed, and accountable * High ownership of deliverables and system health * Collaborative team player who elevates overall engineering quality Preferred / Nice to Have * Microservices architecture and distributed transactions * CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, Azure Dev Ops, Git Hub Actions) * Exposure to enterprise security, compliance, and secret management
