Job description: We are seeking a Network Support – Smart Hands Technician to provide on-site technical assistance in data center facilities. This role will support remote engineering teams by installing, cabling, and maintaining network hardware such as Switches, Routers, Access Points and Firewalls. Key responsibilities include racking and stacking equipment, running and testing copper/fiber cabling, performing Layer 1 troubleshooting, assisting with device configuration, and keeping accurate records.
The ideal candidate has hands-on data center or network installation experience, is familiar with structured cabling standards, and is comfortable working in secure environments. Industry certifications such as CompTIA Network+ or CCNA are preferred.
Key Responsibilities:
* Install, rack, and cable network equipment including switches, routers, firewalls, Access Points and wireless controllers.
* Follow rack elevation diagrams, patch panel layouts, and cabling schematics.
* Ensure all equipment is securely mounted, powered, and connected according to vendor specifications.
* Terminate, label, and test copper (Cat5e/Cat6) and fiber optic cables (MMF/SMF).
* Connect patch cables between devices, patch panels, and network ports.
* Trace, tone, and verify cables to diagnose connectivity issues.
* Perform Layer 1 diagnostics for faulty ports, cables, and transceivers.
* Assist remote teams with console access, hardware reboots, and device status verification.
* Replace defective components (modules, SFPs, fans, power supplies) under remote guidance.
* Monitor LEDs, console outputs, and logs to verify equipment health.
* Maintain accurate documentation of installed equipment, cable IDs, and port mappings.
* Update Visio diagrams, spreadsheets, and ticketing systems with completed work.
* Report site conditions, rack space availability, and power usage to the network team.
* Follow site access protocols and security compliance requirements.
* Provide photographic documentation of installations and completed work.
Required Skills & Experience:
* Proven experience with rack/stack and cabling in a data center or network environment.
* Familiarity with networking hardware from vendors such as Cisco, Juniper, Arista, Fortinet, or Palo Alto.
* Understanding of Layer 1 and Layer 2 networking concepts.
* Ability to read and interpret network diagrams, patch panel layouts, and installation guides.
Qualifications:
* Certifications: CompTIA Network+, Cisco CCNA, or equivalent.
* Knowledge of structured cabling standards (TIA/EIA).
* Experience with DC power systems, cable management, and airflow best practices.
* Basic knowledge of network troubleshooting commands (ping, traceroute) and console access.
Physical & Work Requirements:
* Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in confined rack aisles.
* Flexible schedule to support after-hours maintenance windows.
* On-site presence required; may involve travel between data center locations.
Expected hours: Job would be on a demand basis, the day rate would be applied on every single day, whether it's a weekend/ weekday.
