Senior Neuro-Physiologist (Fixed-term CV Contract, Mater Private Network)
A fixed term contract covering maternity leave within Mater Private Network’s Clinical Neurophysiology Department. The role includes services such as electroencephalography (EEG), nerve conduction studies (NCS), electromyography (EMG) and video telemetry EEG, with focus on carpal tunnel and video telemetry.
Skills & Qualifications:
* BSc in Clinical Measurement from Dublin Institute of Technology/TU Dublin or equivalent.
* Level 8 relevant scientific qualification as confirmed by the Irish Institute of Clinical Measurements Science (IICMS).
* Or Certificate in Medical Physics and Physiological Measurement (MPPM) from Dublin Institute of Technology.
* Or equivalent relevant scientific qualification confirmed by the IICMS.
* Minimum 3 years satisfactory relevant post-qualification experience.
* Clinical, managerial and administrative capacity to properly discharge the functions of the role.
General Duties:
* Adheres to training regarding ethical responsibilities and confidentiality.
* Conforms to all Departmental, as well as Hospital, policies and procedures.
* Maintains appropriate interpersonal skills with patients, colleagues, physicians and other hospital staff.
* Maintains all instrumentation in excellent working order, checking calibration and making minor maintenance adjustments and repairs deemed by the instrument manufacturer as appropriate and safe.
* Performs other departmental related duties, archiving, stock taking and other duties as directed by the Chief Clinical Physiologist.
* Senior Neuro-Physiologist is expected to perform under the guidance of the Consultant staff and will report to the Clinical Physiology Manager.
* Our service also provides other clinical testing such as Polysomnography for Sleep Disorders.
Specific Duties:
* Explains the test procedures to the patient to obtain the patient’s cooperation necessary for a complete examination. Checks the patient’s medical chart for orders and special needs with particular attention to patients with pacemakers.
* Performs standard and advanced Nerve Conduction Studies in a highly skilled, patient-appropriate manner, recognises normal and abnormal results, and, recognises and takes reasonable steps to eliminate physiological and non-physiological artifact.
* Performs bedside EEG studies in the intensive care unit or outside the department understanding the special technical requirements of these areas.
* Performs Routine, Sleep Deprived, Prolonged and Ambulatory EEG's.
* Supervises and participates in the teaching of junior personnel and students and reports same to the Chief Clinical Physiologist.
Hours of Work
Rostered duty comprises of working a 35 hour week, Monday – Friday with occasional Sunday afternoon work.
