Opportunity:
Working as a Consultant in Cardiology within the HSE (Ireland's public health system) you'll provide high-quality care to patients in this leading university teaching health service in Kerry.
This role is not a substantive post but will be a relatively long-term contract of 1 year with a view to going permanent.
Clinical Duties
1. Clinical Care
* Diagnose and treat cardiovascular conditions such as heart failure, coronary artery disease, arrhythmias, and hypertension.
* Perform and interpret cardiac investigations such as ECGs, echocardiograms, stress tests, and angiography.
* Manage inpatients and outpatients, including acute care and long-term follow-up.
* Lead cardiology ward rounds, especially for complex or high-risk patients.
* Participate in emergency care, including assessment of patients with chest pain and other acute cardiac events.
Leadership and Supervision
* Supervise junior doctors, registrars, and interns.
* Provide mentorship and training to medical students and non-consultant hospital doctors (NCHDs).
* Lead multidisciplinary teams, including nurses, physiotherapists, and dietitians in delivering cardiac care.
* Implement national clinical guidelines and standards (e.g., those from the HSE’s National Clinical Programme for Heart Disease).
* Participate in audits and quality improvement initiatives.
* Participate in on-call rotas for emergency cardiology services (depending on hospital needs).
* Attend consultant meetings, manage clinic schedules, and contribute to strategic planning within the hospital or HSE region.
* Work with hospital management on resource allocation, service delivery, and reporting.
* Attend and present at conferences, keeping up to date with advances in cardiology.
* Promote evidence-based practice among peers and trainees.

Essential Criteria
* Registration as a specialist in the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council in Ireland in the specialty of Cardiology.
* Or must be on or working towards Specialist Registration of IMC.
