Overview
Ability West provides a wide range of high-quality services to children and adults with intellectual disabilities and autism across Galway City and County. Services provided are day, residential, short breaks, community supports, rehabilitative training and multi-disciplinary supports. Each person is supported and valued within an environment which promotes their overall autonomy, health and wellbeing and enables them to reach their potential.
The Role
The Speech and Language Therapist will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, supporting adults availing of Ability West services across east County Galway. The Speech and Language Therapist will work within a person-centred framework alongside the people supported, their support teams and families.
Essential Criteria
* Registered as a Speech & Language Therapist by the Speech & Language Therapists Registration Board at CORU.
* Experience in working with adults with intellectual disability (includes placements).
* Experience working in an intellectual disability setting (includes placements or other relevant experience).
* Hold a qualification and be competent to practice with disorders of Feeding, Eating, Drinking, and Swallowing (FEDS).
* Full current driving license with access to your own vehicle. Travel to services, and head office in Blackrock House, Galway will be required.
Desirable
* Experience in working with a range of total and inclusive communication strategies including AAC.
* Lamh Module One certification and other relevant Continuous Professional Development.
* Knowledge of relevant disability-related legislation and standards of practice.
* An understanding of models of person-centred planning and biopsychosocial model.
* Membership of IASLT.
