Overview
PwC Ireland is seeking an experienced Commercial lawyer to join the Office of General Counsel (OGC) team, supporting the growth of the Irish business in the consulting, technology, and managed services space.
The technology practice has grown significantly and is expected to continue expanding.
The role requires at least 6 years' experience providing commercial legal advice, ideally in-house or at a law firm, with clients similar to PwC or its competitors.
Strong communication, relationship-building, strategic thinking, and the ability to influence negotiations in a dynamic business environment are essential.
The successful candidate will work closely with engagement delivery teams and have direct access to clients and their legal teams, acting as a face of PwC in negotiations.
The Irish OGC team is led by the General Counsel and comprises four other Legal Counsel.
The team is experienced, well-connected to the business, and supportive.
Although the role has a technology focus, OGC operates as one team and offers exposure to a broad range of in-house matters, enabling the development of new areas of legal expertise.
The role reports to the OGC Director and includes access to PwC's training and career development opportunities.
Key responsibilities
Independently negotiating, managing and running complex contract negotiations on behalf of OGC, including non-standard/client contracts, public body contracts, global framework agreements, MSAs, or other multi-territory contracts.
Negotiating commercial contracts with a focus on technology implementation, managed services, outsourcing, and other IT-related contracts.
Be the OGC point of contact and lead contracts lawyer for technology contracting for the Firm.
Advise on data protection law and review/ negotiate data protection terms in client and supplier agreements.
Collaborate with the wider PwC network on cross-border deals, including Global Framework Agreements and Master Services Agreements.
Take responsibility for creating and maintaining precedents and guidance notes for use throughout PwC's business.
Keep abreast of changes in current law and regulations to keep the business up to date.
Work closely with other OGC team members while being capable of working independently and managing a diverse, heavy workload.
Key requirements
Detailed knowledge of Irish law, at least 6 years' PQE (or equivalent); top-tier law firm experience or in-house experience is advantageous.
Proven experience in commercial contract negotiation with a focus on technology implementation contracts, managed services, outsourcing, and other IT-related contracts.
Experience in privacy and data protection topics is an advantage but not a requirement.
Strong drafting skills.
Ability to handle complex negotiations with sound judgment to serve the firm's best interests.
Ability to appreciate the wider reputational, commercial and business aspects of each deal.
Adaptability, open-mindedness and innovation.
Sound judgment and well-developed influencing skills; confidence to work with senior management across the business.
A demonstrated ability to build strong relationships and become a trusted advisor to the business.
