Experienced Mechanical Design Engineer required for a leading Irish organisation specialising in the design and manufacture of heavy transport equipment. This is a full-time, permanent role based in Laois, offering an excellent salary package and long-term career progression.
The Role
Designing and overseeing the manufacture of HGV hauling trailers, crane systems, and heavy-duty mechanical assemblies.
* Using Solid Works to create detailed 3D models, drawings, and full design packages.
* Performing FEA (Finite Element Analysis) to validate structural integrity and performance.
* Managing project costs and ensuring all required parts and materials are available ahead of production.
* Ensuring SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) are followed throughout the design and manufacturing cycle.
* Generating BOMs (Bills of Materials) and ensuring documentation accuracy.
* Collaborating with production, procurement, and operations teams to ensure smooth project delivery.
* Taking ownership of projects from concept through to final manufacture.
This is a hands-on design role with significant influence on product development and engineering standards.
The Person
Our client is seeking candidates who:
* Have 7+ years' experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer.
* Are highly proficient in Solid Works, with experience designing heavy equipment such as plant machinery, agricultural equipment, forestry machines, HGV systems, quarry machinery, or recycling equipment.
* Have experience with FEA analysis and stress calculations.
* Can work independently, take full ownership of projects, and manage design workloads effectively.
* Bring team leadership or mentoring experience (advantageous).
* Are commutable to Laois (approximately one hour from surrounding counties).
Package Details
* Salary: €65,000 - €80,000 (DOE)
* Vehicle: Possible, though may reduce salary
* Holidays: 20 days annually
