OverviewThe Commercial Underwriter plays a key role in underwriting small to medium-sized Property, Liability, Miscellaneous and Commercial Combined risks for both broker and direct clients.The position involves assessing, pricing and managing risk in line with underwriting appetite, while delivering a high standard of service to Member clients and supporting wider underwriting and business objectives.In addition, the role includes a small element of consumer underwriting, covering core personal lines such as Motor, Home and Personal Accident for both direct and broker channels.Your ResponsibilitiesUnderwriting and managing Property, Liability, Commercial Combined and Miscellaneous risks for small to medium-sized direct and broker clients.Managing a designated portfolio of Member clients with a measured and pragmatic approach to sensitive cases.Evaluating, pricing and underwriting Motor, Home and Personal Accident risks at a high level.Taking ownership and accountability for underwriting decisions in line with Risk Appetite and Underwriting Licence.Applying disciplined risk assessment to support sustainable portfolio performance.Ensuring accuracy and clarity in policy wordings and endorsements to maintain contract certainty.Building and maintaining effective relationships with brokers, clients and internal stakeholders.Your BackgroundCIP qualification (or equivalent) with membership of the III.Experience in Commercial and/or Financial Lines/D&O insurance.Strong technical knowledge across Commercial and Personal Lines products.Strong analytical and numeracy skills.Ability to manage workload effectively and meet deadlines.Strong work ethic, flexibility and a proactive approach.What you'll get:A supportive and collaborative underwriting team.Exposure to a varied and balanced underwriting portfolio.Hands-on involvement in underwriting projects and strategic initiatives.The opportunity to broaden technical expertise across both Commercial and Consumer Line.Opportunities for professional development.
