Responsibilities
Work as part of a team in the delivery of one or more projects, embracing a "one team" culture.
Ensure Health, Safety, Environmental & Sustainability standards, policies and procedures are integrated into the proposed designs.
Collaborate closely with all key stakeholders, including clients, client representatives and third‑party agencies.
Maintain a positive client experience, fostering collaboration and cooperation.
Lead the design team and any appointed consultants across all aspects of the design scope.
Develop a design budget at the outset and monitor expenditure against the budget.
Represent the company at design review workshops and HAZOPs, ensuring all resulting actions are closed in a timely manner.
Coordinate PSDP activities for the design phase, adopting best‑practice prevention principles.
Ensure best‑practice design management, establishing and monitoring the design programme throughout the project.
Monitor project performance, including risk and opportunity management, and mitigate or reduce risk where possible.
Report monthly project performance to the framework manager, covering programme, milestones and workshop stages.
Prepare costed proposals for final design or at required intervals under the contract.
Ensure all engineering disciplines are consulted for accurate and complete project cost build‑ups.
Provide review of final design and contract documentation, offering feedback on red‑line documents.
Build and promote industry‑leading teams through training, mentoring and development planning.
Participate in resource management and recruitment within the team as a hiring manager.
Respond to and address client and stakeholder complaints promptly, and obtain client satisfaction surveys for feedback.
Seek to improve the design delivery process through lessons‑learned feedback and innovative solutions.
Stay current with the latest standards and technology through continuous professional development (CPD).
Qualifications
Minimum of five years’ experience in a similar role, preferably within the water and wastewater industry.
Extensive working knowledge of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations 2013.
Holder of a certificate in Designing Safely for Construction and/or PSDP coordination is preferable.
Experience in civil and process engineering works such as temporary works, bulk earthworks, tank systems, building works, process units and M&E installations.
Minimum Level 8 Honours degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical or Environmental Engineering.
Ability to work under pressure to deliver project objectives.
Ability to collaborate with the client and their representatives in developing design solutions.
Good working knowledge of programme management software such as Microsoft Project.
Ability to prepare baseline programmes and programme updates.
Ability to use own initiative, problem‑solve and adjust as issues arise during project delivery.
Excellent working knowledge of MS Office packages such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project.
Strong communication skills with a high level of motivation.
Full driving licence.
