The Camogie Association is recruiting for a Chief Executive Officer.
About Us
Founded in 1904, the Camogie Association is the National Governing Body for the sport of Camogie,
and it is responsible for promoting, developing and supporting the game, the players and the
volunteers across the country and internationally.
Camogie is one of Irelands national sports and in 2018, its unique contribution to Irish culture
was formally recognised when Camogie was added to UNESCOs list of protected cultural activities
around the world. Camogie operates at club, county, provincial and international levels with teams
of all ages participating in the sport in recreational and competitive activities.
The Camogie Association is currently engaged in an integration process which will see it, Ladies
Gaelic Football Association and the GAA integrated into a new GAA. The new CEO will play a leading
role in ensuring that Camogie is promoted, developed and well positioned to engage positively in
this process. The CEO will be responsible for managing the organisation up to and through this
integration process.
About The Role
This role is one of the most important high profile leadership roles for female sport in Ireland.
The CEO of the Camogie Association works closely with the Ard Chomhairle (governing body) to shape
the strategy of the Association and then provide the operational leadership to ensure the
successful, visible delivery of that strategy. They will create the optimum environment so that the
volunteers and staff at national, provincial, county, club and international levels are supported
and enabled in delivering the functions of the Association as defined in the rules, effectively and
efficiently. They will build out the Camogie brand to ensure it achieves a level of prominence
appropriate to its importance to Irish female sporting culture.
Key Responsibilities
Provides oversight of all the Associations activities, manages the day-to-day operations, and
assures a smooth functioning and efficient organisation.
Assists and advises Ard Chomhairle on policy matters, short and long term goals and leads the
development and implementation of the existing Strategic Plan for Camogie and the developing
strategic pathway for the game of Camogie into and post integration.
Recruits, leads, develops, manages and enables a strong and effective national staff up to,
through and post the integration process.
Overall responsibility for the operations of the Association and its financial, physical and
human resource management, ensuring efficiency and sustainability.
Maintains the highest standards of compliance and corporate governance and fostering an ethical
culture across all levels within the Association.
Ensures that all operations are carried out to recognised and agreed standards and that
controls, systems and procedures are in place to assist regular evaluation
Ensure compliance with the Camogie Associations binding codes and mandatory procedures
including Code of Governance.
Engages proactively and positively internally with the grass-roots of our Association our
players, volunteers and the wider membership across the Association and externally with relevant
stakeholders, media and representative bodies
Puts in place the necessary supports to build out the Camogie brand and maximise the extent to
which the national and international audience is exposed to Camogie
Fosters and develops a wide variety of stakeholder relationships, developing appropriate working
relationships with Government departments and state agencies to ensure the continued focus and
development of Camogie as a core part of our sporting culture.
Provide strong visible leadership as the Chief Executive of one of Irelands leading
proponents and facilitators of female participation in sport.
Essential Requirements
Demonstrated leadership experience (7+ years) at a senior management level with a strong track
record of delivery in a large, dynamic national/international environment
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a successful track record in building and
nurturing key relationships and partnerships with a wide range of diverse stakeholders
Demonstrable experience of making sound judgements on major issues whilst operating in a dynamic
environment and the capacity to implement or absorb any consequential action.
Experience at successfully building and managing effective multidisciplinary teams
The ability to lead the team and continue to deliver in a dynamic and changing environment which
will be anticipated through the integration process
A relevant third level qualification.
A successful track record in the development and delivery of strategic plans and the ability to
engage with and help develop a strategic vision for the Game.
Comprehensive understanding of financial management and reporting with strong analytical and
problem solving skills.
An understanding of the structures and governance requirements of the Camogie
Association.
A passion for sport (Camogie in particular) and an understanding of the operating environment
and the key stakeholders.
Strong communication skills both for internal and external audiences.
TERM
This is a 2-year fixed term contract position.
Location
The position is Dublin-based but will require a significant degree of travel.
