Role Title: Staff Grade Speech & Language Therapist (Down Syndrome Specialist)
Overview
The candidate will work as part of the Down Syndrome Ireland Speech and Language Therapy service, delivering speech, language, communication and feeding, eating, drinking and swallowing (FEDS) assessment and intervention to individuals with Down syndrome.
Key Responsibilities
Provide assessment, diagnosis and intervention across the lifespan, in line with evidence‑based practice and under appropriate supervision.
Deliver therapy in clinic, home, school and day service settings, as per organisational policies.
Manage and prioritise a varied caseload, ensuring continuity and quality of care.
Use clinical equipment and therapy materials safely, reporting any needs to senior staff.
Incorporate relevant technology to support assessment, intervention and service efficiency.
Adapt intervention approaches in response to supervision, emerging evidence and individual client needs.
Communicate assessment findings, intervention plans and progress clearly to individuals, families, carers and professionals.
Work in accordance with CORU standards, IASLT guidelines, DSI policies and professional codes of conduct.
Maintain confidentiality and data protection compliance.
Maintain accurate, comprehensive clinical records in line with governance standards.
Participate in service audits, quality improvement initiatives and research activities.
Support multidisciplinary teams, families, carers and external agencies through collaboration and joint planning.
Engage in continuous professional development and support learning of students or assistants.
Assist in planning, developing and evaluating SLT services, supporting resource management and organisational policies.
Eligibility & Qualifications
Registered or eligible for registration as a Speech & Language Therapist with the Speech & Language Therapists Registration Board (CORU).
Minimum of 1 year full‑time post‑qualification clinical experience.
Demonstrated knowledge and ability for professional duties, including assessment of motor speech disorders, FEDS needs and augmentative and alternative communication.
Willingness to obtain professional indemnity insurance (covered by DSI).
Good health and character; fully competent for the role.
Commitment to ongoing professional development and continuous learning.
Terms & Conditions
Salary: €44,563 – €52,462 DOE, pro‑rated for part‑time.
Working Week: 37.5 hours per week, with flexibility for part‑time and remote working.
Annual Leave: 25 days full‑time, pro‑rated for part‑time, plus two company days.
Probation: 6‑month probation period.
