Applications are invited for a temporary part-time (0.5FTE) post of a Research Commercialisation and Business Model Lead within UCD School of Agriculture and Food Science.
University College Dublin is seeking an experienced (Research)Commercialisation & Business Model Lead to lead a Business Model Market Validation task in a new complex multi-disciplinary research and innovation programme focussed on transforming food waste into functional ingredients.
The post holder will be responsible for validating, refining and shaping scalable circular business models that enables food producers to upcycle their by-products into high-value functional ingredients at source.
The role will focus on identifying and engaging suitable food producer partners, leading customer and end-user co-creation activities, and refining commercial, operational and route-to-market strategies.
Working closely with academic researchers, industry partners, and technical collaborators (including SMEs), the post holder will ensure that the business models are validated and grounded in real market demand, operational feasibility and commercial viability.
The role is central to translating research outputs into future pipeline commercial opportunities and supporting the long-term impact of the programme.

Eligibility criteria
Mandatory:
Third level qualification required; bachelor's degree (Business, Commerce or equivalent).
Significant commercial experience (15 years +) in R&D driven Functional Food and Life Sciences organisations or business units.
A track record of successful validation and commercialisation of new technologies and business model development.
Strong leadership, commercial acumen, strategic decision making and implementation, and thought leadership in previous roles.
Demonstrate highly developed stakeholder engagement, interpersonal and communication skills.
Proven ability to work across academia, industry and technical partners.
Candidates must show evidence of leadership in and/or demonstrated commitment to gender equality and the broader equality, diversity and inclusion agenda.
Postgraduate qualification in Marketing/Innovation.
Experience in circular economy.
Background in innovation creation and commercialisation through market opportunities and user insight - specifically co-creation, customer discovery and market validation methodologies.
Experience developing licensing, service-based or platform business models.
