Permanent Whole Time Post UCC wishes to appoint an academic to the role of Lecturer in French Studies OR German Studies. Reporting to the appropriate Head of the Department, the successful candidate will be expected to coordinate Modern Languages Provision for the four-year BEd Gaeilge programme, in conjunction with the School of Education. They will contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching (and related administration) in line with their respective linguistic, cultural and disciplinary expertise, as well as designing and delivering research-led content for modules within the School of Languages, Literatures and Cultures. They should hold a PhD (or equivalent) in a relevant field and provide evidence of an emerging research track record in any aspect of contemporary French Studies or German Studies. We are particularly interested in candidates who have teaching and research interests in the following areas: Film Studies; Environmental Humanities; Translation Studies; Digital Cultures; Polylingual Humanities; Crip Culture and Disability Studies. Applicants are expected to have demonstrable teaching experience in Modern Languages and Language-Related Studies at university level, to show experience of facilitating student learning in virtual as well as face-to-face environments, and to be committed to research excellence through the development of ambitious interdisciplinary projects and outputs. Candidates must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills in English and either French or German, show willingness to work in a collaborative environment, and demonstrate understanding of, and the ability to respond appropriately to, the academic and pastoral needs of students. Salary placement on appointment will be in accordance with public sector pay policy.
