Role Summary The role sits within the ISIF Risk Management team which is the first line investment risk team within ISIF.
The team's main role is to measure, monitor and manage investment risk across ISIF including market risk, liquidity risk, FX risk and credit risk.
The team works closely with investment teams on both new investment proposals and existing transactions.
The team is also core to the Fund's cash management, portfolio construction and asset allocation.
It should be noted that the ISIF Risk Management team team is separate to the second line of defence (NTMA Risk) which independently assesses enterprise, liquidity, investment, market and counterparty credit risk.
The ISIF Risk Management team engages regularly with NTMA Risk (second line of defence) in respect of investment and financial risk management matters.
The ISIF Risk Management team sits within the Portfolio Management division of ISIF, the division which is also responsible for ESG and economic impact implementation, data, MI and analytics and the monitoring of Irish Portfolio investments.

The role will have a high level of investment exposure from the outset.
The Investment Manager's role is to work collaboratively within the small team and also among the wider ISIF team of front office investment professionals.
The team is involved in the management of all of the Fund's assets, including both the Irish Portfolio and the Global Portfolio.
The Irish Portfolio is focused on making commercial investments that support economic activity and employment in Ireland primarily through private investments (private equity, venture capital, direct debt etc).
The Global Portfolio consists of diversified international investments, with the primary objective of providing liquidity to support Irish Portfolio investments while also earning an appropriate risk-adjusted return to enhance the ISIF's overall performance.
A key part of the role will be assessing the investment risk of individual investments and asset classes and how each contributes to the overall risk of the Fund.
The successful candidate will work to enhance the team's role as a strategic partner in investment decision-making by working closely with colleagues across investment teams to ensure sound risk management perspectives are embedded early and effectively in the transaction/due diligence process.
The successful candidate will also be core to the management of the Fund's overall asset allocation and portfolio construction which incorporates a wide range of public and private assets.
In addition, the successful candidate will contribute to idea generation and engage in automation efforts to streamline operational and analytical processes.
All members of the ISIF team are required to remain flexible to respond to the dynamic nature of the ISIF mandate - this may require team members to apply their skills to other types of investment, outside of their core areas of responsibility, from time to time.
Principal Accountabilities The Investment Manager will be required to work alongside other Investment Managers and Directors across the full range of the Fund's investment activities.
Activities will include: Conduct bottom-up and top-down risk assessments and scenario analyses to challenge and validate both public and private investment transactions.
Close collaboration with investment teams to provide value add risk management insights to both new investment proposals and existing portfolio investments.
Deliver risk assessments on investment proposals across public and private markets.
Review and oversight of the investment portfolio and asset allocation, ensuring alignment with the ISIF Strategy and risk tolerance.
Ongoing stress testing of both private and public asset exposures and developing risk tools and processes to make this work repeatable.
Collaborate with and where necessary challenge internal teams (e.g., ESG, investment monitoring, economics, deal origination, data analytics and MI) to align risk and investment perspectives.
Managing ad-hoc projects as required to provide portfolio insights to colleagues, ISIF Investment Committee and stakeholders.
Maintain pulse on market dynamics, investment and economic trends and consider both their implications for ISIF and ultimately translate them into actionable investment insights.
Coaching and reviewing output of junior colleagues.
Knowledge and Experience The ideal candidate will have: 5+ years' experience in investment management, fund management, risk management, corporate finance or similar environment.
Experience in risk management of both public and private investments Strong understanding of asset allocation, portfolio construction, and risk analytics.
Proven ability to assess macroeconomic indicators and translate them into actionable investment insights.
Familiarity with valuation methodologies, debt pricing, and market benchmarking.
Knowledge/ Experience of portfolio construction tools and asset allocation models.
Experience in private equity, venture capital, corporate finance, commercial/corporate banking or similar environment is preferred.
Third level qualification in Economics, Finance, Engineering or a related discipline.
CFA qualified or accountancy qualification is desirable Skills Strong numerical and analytical skills Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex risk concepts to diverse stakeholders including at ISIF/NTMA committees.
