The role
Staff Grade Occupational Therapist
(0.8 WTE, Specified Purpose Contract)
St Patrick’s Mental Health Services is seeking a Staff Grade Occupational Therapist to fill a vacancy. The occupational therapist will be responsible for the provision of a high-quality person-centred care and will carry out clinical and educational duties as assigned by the Senior Occupational Therapist / Occupational Therapist Manager.
The Staff Grade Occupational Therapist will report to the Occupational Therapy Manager.
The standard working week applying to the post is 28 hours per week, Monday to Friday or as agreed (0.8 WTE). This post may require out of hours or weekend work.

Location
St Patrick’s Mental Health Services (SPMHS), incorporating St Patrick’s University Hospital, James’s Street, Dublin 8; St Patrick’s Hospital, Lucan; Willow Grove Adolescent Unit, James’s Street, Dublin 8; and the Dean Clinics.
Responsibilities
In carrying out all duties, the occupational therapist should ensure that all organization & health & safety policies, organizational procedures, and legislative requirements are met.
Professional / Clinical
The Staff Grade Occupational Therapist will:
* Be responsible for assessment, planning, implementation, and review of treatment / intervention programmes for service users (adults/older adults) with complex mental health needs both face to face and virtually.
* Facilitate group interventions as appropriate both face to face and virtually.
* Manage own caseload in accordance with the needs of the post
* Collaborate with service users, family, carers, and other staff in treatment / intervention planning and in the provision of support and advice
* Plan discharge or transition of the service user between services as appropriate
* Document all assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, reports, and discharge summaries in the EHR in accordance with department and hospital policy
* Communicate verbally and / or in writing results of assessments, treatment / intervention programmes and recommendations to the team and relevant others in accordance with departmental policy
* Participate as part of a multi-disciplinary team, communicating and working in co-operation with other team members
* Attend family meetings, team meetings, case conferences, ward rounds etc. as designated by Senior Occupational Therapist / Occupational Therapist Manager
* Arrange and carry out duties in a timely manner
* Maintain quality standards of practice and participate in quality assurance and clinical audit as appropriate
* Seek advice and assistance from his / her supervisor / manager with any assigned cases or issues that prove to be beyond the scope of his / her professional competence in line with principles of best practice and clinical governance
* Operate within the scope of Irish Occupational Therapy practice, CORU and in accordance with organization policy
* Be knowledgeable of the Judgement Support Framework (JSF) and the Mental Health Commission and how occupational therapy supports compliance with the JSF.
* Demonstrate adherence to professional standards, including the maintenance of strict clinical boundaries in all client interaction
Health & Safety
The Staff Grade Occupational Therapist will:
* Work in a safe manner with due care and attention to the safety of self and others
* Implement agreed policies, procedures, and safe professional practice by adhering to relevant legislation, regulations, and standards
* Be aware of risk management issues, identify risks and take appropriate action
* Document appropriately and report any near misses, hazards and accidents and bring them to the attention of the relevant person(s)
Administrative
The Staff Grade Occupational Therapist will:
* Keep up-to-date statistics via the EHR diary and other administrative records as required within the Occupational Therapy department
* Participate in the establishment and maintenance of standards for quality improvement and adhere to existing standards and policies
* Contribute to the planning and development of the Occupational Therapy Service and participate in service improvements
* Participate in audits / outcome measurement of intervention as directed by the Senior Occupational Therapist / Occupational Therapist Manager
* Represent the department at meetings and conferences as required by the Senior Occupational Therapist / Occupational Therapist Manager
* Engage in IT developments as they apply to service user and service administration
* Keep up to date with developments within the organisation, Mental Health Commission, relevant legislation, and the Irish Health Service
* Carry out other duties as assigned by the Senior Occupational Therapist / Occupational Therapist Manager

* Proven awareness of the occupational therapy process
* A good working knowledge of the specific skills required to work with adults/older adults with mental health difficulties.
* A good working knowledge of the processes involved in working with service users with psychiatric conditions
* An ability to assess the psychosocial needs of service users prior to discharge and refer to appropriate services
* Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including MS Teams and Outlook

Terms and Conditions
Tenure: 0.8WTE Part time, Specified Purpose contract.
Working Week: The standard hours applying to this position is 28 hours per week, 9am to 5pm, Monday to Thursday or as agreed (0.8 WTE). This post may require out of hours or weekend work.
Salary: The salary for the position is based on the Staff Grade Occupational Therapist 2025 pay scale, €46,566 - €61,648 (pro rata), and is commensurate with experience.
Annual Leave The annual leave associated with the position is 25 days per annum (pro rata).
Pension: All pensionable staff become members of the pension scheme after successful completion of probation. The scheme is a defined contribution scheme with a deduction from the salary of the employee of 4%. In respect of an internal appointment being made, the individual’s existing pension arrangements will continue.
Probation: The appointee will be appointed in a probationary capacity for the first six months during which time the job holder’s performance will be subject to ongoing review.
Any extension to or suspension of the period of probation will be in line with the European Union (Transparent and Predictable Working Conditions) 2022.
Health: The appointee must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the position and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.
Character: The appointee must be of good character.
