We are supporting our client in sourcing a Senior Data Engineer for a 12-month daily-rate contract. This opportunity is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a modern Azure data environment, takes ownership of complex engineering challenges, and acts as a technical mentor within the team. The role is fully hands-on and will be central to the ongoing development of scalable, high-performance data solutions. What Youll Be Doing Building and enhancing large-scale data pipelines using Azure Databricks, PySpark, and Azure Data Lake. Developing reliable ETL/ELT processes with a strong focus on data quality and operational stability. Tuning Spark jobs, improving workflow performance, and optimising distributed processing workloads. Partnering closely with the Data Engineering Lead to refine architecture, review designs, and contribute to long-term technical planning. Coaching and guiding less experienced engineers, helping strengthen team-wide engineering standards. Setting up and maintaining CI/CD workflows through Azure DevOps, ensuring smooth and automated deployments. Participating in code reviews, design discussions, and continuous improvement initiatives. Integrating data from diverse sources into a single scalable platform. Troubleshooting and resolving complex data issues to maintain pipeline health and reliability. Collaborating with cross-functional teams across Ireland and the US. What Were Looking For Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. 7+ years in data engineering roles within modern cloud/data environments. Hands-on experience (3+ years) with Databricks, Azure Data Lake, Spark, and distributed data processing. Strong programming background in Python and SQL (Scala exposure beneficial). Working knowledge of big-data technologies such as Spark, Hive, Hadoop, and Delta Lake. Practical experience with Azure tools including Azure Data Factory and Azure DevOps. Strong grounding in ETL/ELT patterns, data modelling, and warehousing concepts. Experience working with graph ETL or graph databases (Cosmos DB / AWS Neptune) is a plus. Demonstrated CI/CD, Git, and automation experience. Excellent communicator with proven ability to support, mentor, and guide teammates.
