We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Oncology Nurses to join a brand new specialist cancer centre in Limerick.
Excel Recruitment is proud to partner with a brand-new, state-of-the-art oncology centre in Limerick, due to open later this year, to recruit a Staff Nurse- Oncology. This is a unique opportunity to join a service at its inception and play a key role in shaping a modern, patient-centred cancer care service from the ground up.
Overview of the Role
As a Staff Nurse in Oncology, you will be instrumental in delivering high-quality, evidence-based care to patients undergoing cancer treatment. Working within a dynamic multidisciplinary team, you will support patients throughout their journey—from diagnosis through treatment and recovery.
This role offers a rare opportunity to contribute to the development of a new oncology service, while advancing your own clinical skills in a forward-thinking and supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver high standards of nursing care to oncology patients in line with best practice guidelines
Administer and monitor Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapies (SACT) where applicable
Perform comprehensive patient assessments (physical, psychological, and social)
Monitor patient progress and respond appropriately to treatment-related side effects
Support patients and families with education, advice, and emotional support
Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient outcomes
Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation
Adhere to hospital policies, procedures, and infection control standards
Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical audits
Registration as a General Nurse on the active register of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI)
Minimum 1 year’s post-registration experience in an oncology setting (essential)
Experience in the administration of chemotherapy and/or SACT is highly desirable
Strong clinical assessment and decision‑making skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
Post‑registration qualification in Oncology Nursing (or working towards same)
Experience in acute hospital settings
IV cannulation and venepuncture competency
