Title: Senior Ornithologist
Location: Flexible – anywhere in Ireland, Northern Ireland, or Scotland
Type: Full-time, Permanent
Travel: Occasional to Dublin (1–2 times per month)
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Ornithologist to join our client’s expanding ecology and environmental assessment team. This is a senior, predominantly desk‑based position focused on project management, survey coordination, and client engagement across a wide range of renewable energy and infrastructure projects throughout Ireland and the UK. You will lead and mentor a team of ornithologists and ecologists, oversee survey design and data quality, manage Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) deliverables, and act as a key point of contact for clients and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and coordinate ornithological survey programmes across Ireland and the UK.
* Manage all stages of ornithological input to EIAs and HRA (from scoping through to completion).
* Oversee project delivery, ensuring quality, accuracy, and adherence to timelines and budgets.
* Line‑manage and mentor junior and mid‑level ornithologists, fostering technical excellence and professional growth.
* Liaise directly with clients, regulators, and stakeholders, providing expert advice and maintaining strong relationships.
* Contribute to business development activities, including proposal preparation, client presentations, and strategic initiatives.
* Support knowledge sharing and continuous improvement within the ecology team.
Requirements
* Minimum 5 to 15 years’ experience in ornithology, ideally within an environmental consultancy.
* Proven experience managing and coordinating EIA projects through all phases.
* Proven working experience under the Irish and/or British planning and environmental regulations/legislations.
* Strong background in ornithological survey design, data interpretation, and reporting.
* Excellent project management, budgeting, and resourcing skills.
* Demonstrated client‑facing and stakeholder engagement experience.
* Full driving licence and flexibility to travel as required.
* Experience in renewable energy projects (wind, solar, grid, etc.) is an advantage.
* Eligibility to work in Ireland or the UK.
