Environmental Engineer

About the Role

On behalf of our client, we are recruiting for an Environmental Engineer to join a well-established consultancy operating across Ireland. The organisation delivers specialist services in brownfield regeneration, ground investigation, hydrogeology, contaminated land assessment, and environmental risk management.

The successful candidate will work across a broad range of projects and sectors, supporting both private and public clients. This role offers the opportunity to lead site-based investigations, produce high-quality technical reports, and contribute to the continued growth of the environmental team.

This is a hybrid position involving both office-based work and fieldwork across Ireland (typically 50% site / 50% office, depending on project needs).

Key Responsibilities

Site Investigation & Fieldwork

* Plan, manage, and supervise ground investigation activities.

* Conduct groundwater and ground gas monitoring.

* Carry out fieldwork in accordance with relevant standards, guidance, and H&S requirements.

* Interpret site data and oversee subcontractors as needed.

Technical Reporting & Analysis

* Produce Phase 1 desk studies with preliminary risk assessments.

* Prepare Phase 2 geo-environmental interpretative reports, including qualitative and quantitative risk assessments.

* Review and interpret geotechnical and environmental data.

* Prepare clear, concise, technically robust documentation for clients and stakeholders.

Client & Project Support

* Liaise confidently with clients, design teams, regulators, and other project stakeholders.

* Support delivery of contaminated land, hydrogeological, and environmental consultancy projects.

* Assist in developing technical proposals and supporting wider business development activities.

Compliance & Best Practice

* Ensure all site activities comply with health, safety, and environmental standards.

* Apply current technical guidance and planning regulations relevant to contaminated land assessment.

Skills & Experience

Essential

* Degree in geology, engineering geology, hydrogeology, or environmental science.

* 5 - 10 years consultancy experience in ground investigation or environmental assessment.

* Strong technical background and ability to interpret geotechnical and environmental data.

* Experience planning, managing, and supervising site investigation works.

* Knowledge of contaminated land guidance, investigation standards, and remediation practices.

* Proven ability to produce Phase 1 and Phase 2 reports (PRA, QRA).

* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

* Fully IT literate with strong report-writing capability.

* Strong understanding of health, safety, and environmental management.

* Full clean driving licence.

Desirable

* Masters degree in a relevant discipline.

* Working towards Chartership (e.g. CIWEM, IEMA, Geological Society).

* Experience contributing to business development or client growth strategies.

* Relevant site accreditations (SMSTS, SSSTS, CSCS, etc.).

* Technical speciality in contaminated land, hydrogeology, or geotechnics.
