Overview of role
UPMC Sports Surgery Clinic are looking to recruit a Part time Staff Nurse for a 6-month contract to work as a member of a team of nurses in the Anaesthetics/Recovery department providing high-quality, patient-centred care for patients and their families.
The role involves developing and maintaining good relationships with all members of the multidisciplinary team and working closely with nursing colleagues to develop innovative practice within the unit, delivering evidence-based care.
Working hours will be 25 per week.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Provide, maintain and develop patient-centred care to a high standard; organise nursing services in the theatre and administer the unit.
Demonstrate a clear understanding and commitment to the ethos and philosophy of the Sports Surgery Clinic.
Provide high-quality, effective, individualized care to all patients by assessing care needs, developing, implementing and evaluating them without supervision.
Work autonomously in the theatre area, providing skilled assistance to the anaesthetist.
Plan, implement and assess care of patients.
Participate in on-call, late stays and weekend duties as required.
Maintain an awareness of the primacy of the patient in all clinic activities.
Create and promote healthy working relationships.
Demonstrate behaviour consistent with the values of the clinic.
Account for the nursing service in pre-operative and post-operative areas, ensuring the best possible standard of nursing care at all times.
Assess patient care needs and communicate with relatives and visitors as appropriate.
Set and monitor standards.
Actively participate in the clinic's accreditation programme and continuous quality improvement, implementing and maintaining procedures in the theatre.
Keep the CNMs and the Theatre Manager apprised of all issues as required.
Qualifications & Experience
Qualifications:
Registered General Nurse, registered with An Bord Altranais on the live register.
Theatre or Anaesthetic Course desirable but not essential.
At least two years of post-registration anaesthetics experience.
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years post-registration experience.
Experience as an Anaesthetic & Recovery Nurse.
Experience managing a team of nurses, ideally within an orthopaedic facility.
Computer literate.
Excellent interpersonal skills and proven written and verbal communication abilities.
Ability to work on own initiative, prioritise and manage multiple issues simultaneously, with attention to detail.
Ability to identify potential difficulties and formulate solutions.
Free from any defect or disease that would render unsuited for the role; in a state of health that indicates a reasonable prospect of delivering regular and efficient service.
