Role Summary The main function of this post is to carry out painting and decorating works across St.
Michaels Hospital on a temporary basis.
This includes preparation and finishing of surfaces, maintenance of painting equipment, and ensuring all work areas are clean, safe, and compliant with hospital infection control policies.
The role supports a safe, welcoming, and visually maintained environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
Principal working relationships Facilities staff, Nursing and Medical staff, Administrative, Catering, Medical Laboratory, and Radiology staff.
Key Duties and Responsibilities Prepare, paint, and maintain surfaces to a high standard across hospital interiors and exteriors.
Undertake surface preparation including sanding, filling, priming, and finishing.
Maintain tools, equipment, and painting materials in good working order.
Ensure work areas are safe, clean, and compliant with infection control policies.
Liaise with the Facilities team to coordinate works with minimal disruption.
Assist in decontamination and cleaning tasks as required in clinical areas prior to painting.
Participate in special projects, including painting in operating theatres, wards, and outpatient departments, following strict hygiene and safety protocols.
Undertake any other duties appropriate to the role as assigned by the Facilities Manager Person Specification (Key Skills and Experience Required) Proven experience as a painter, preferably in a commercial, institutional, or healthcare setting.
Knowledge of painting techniques, materials, and finishes.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality work.
Adherence to health and safety standards and infection control protocols.
Flexibility and adaptability to meet operational needs and work in different areas of the hospital.
Good communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to foster positive working relationships across hospital departments.
Reliable, punctual, and willing to undergo relevant ongoing training (e.g., manual handling, infection control.
Conditions of Employment: Annual Leave Entitlement: 28days per annum pro- rata.
Annual leave is calculated January to December of each year.

Probationary Period: The appointee shall hold office for a probationary period of six months The terms of the Voluntary Hospitals Superannuation Scheme (VHSS & SPSPS) and the Voluntary Hospitals Spouses and Childrens Scheme will apply to this position A minimum of one month's notice of termination of employment is required.
Notice of termination of employment must be received in writing Hygiene All employees are required to follow hospital hygiene and infection control policies at all times.
Painting work in clinical areas must comply with infection prevention measures to ensure patient and staff safety.
Policies/Legislation: Employees are required to comply with all relevant hospital policies and procedures, including health and safety, infection control, and ethical codes of practice.
Confidentiality While carrying out painting and maintenance work, employees may have access to areas containing sensitive hospital information or patient materials.
All such information must be treated with discretion and must not be accessed, discussed, or shared except as necessary to perform normal duties.

Fire safety procedures must be observed at all times, and staff must attend any required fire safety briefings.
All accidents or incidents in the workplace must be reported immediately.
Mandatory training relevant to the role, including Manual Handling, Health & Safety, and Infection Control, must be completed and kept up to date.
Smoking is not permitted anywhere within the hospital buildings or grounds.
