As part of our expansion, we are currently looking for a suitably motivated - Senior Opto-Mechanical Design Engineer - to join our group.What you’ll doTo become a key part of the senior mechanical engineering team and help deliver on Mbryonics’ aspiring goals from optical communications terminals to the underpinning manufacturing processes.To employ a “test early” approach by prototyping your designs in our fully equipped on-site manufacturing workshop.Implement continued development of engineering practices and procedures within a blossoming start-up environment.Day-to-day the application of CAD design, close-form calculations, finite element analysis (FEA) and prototyping skills in order to realise various types of opto-mechanical systems and ensure optical performance across environments.Develop novel solutions for, and improve on, existing opto-mechanical systems through innovative approaches, creative inputs, and by leveraging former engineering background/experiences.Ensure mechanical designs meet space-grade standards (e.g., MIL‑STD, ECSS), produce and maintain GD&T-controlled drawings, procedures, and Bills of Materials under formal configuration control.Utilise a hands-on approach, be proactive and consistently help to progress product development in a multidisciplinary environment.Assist with motivating, mentoring and enhancing the team’s capabilities while thriving on setting and achieving your own mission deadlines.Prototype building, testing, documenting and developing processes, and producing support documentation.Work with managers and supervisors to implement quality measures and standards, with an ultimate goal of scaling up to high volume manufacturing.Who you are5+ years of mechanical, aerospace, optical or related engineering field experienceB.Eng/M.Eng in Mechanical, Optical, Aerospace Engineering or relevant fieldUnderstanding of early stage prototyping and product developmentExposure to common manufacturing processesExperience with commercial CAD packages (SolidWorks, NX, or similar) and simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS, Femap, Nastran).Desirable Requirements/Technical Skills/Education:Familiarity with MAIT and product/spacecraft integration, for example mechanical, thermal and electrical interfacingKnowledge of early-stage prototyping, tolerance control, alignment, and thermal stability in optical systems.Experience designing and qualifying opto-mechanical hardware for space or high-reliability environments.Exposure to space industry standards (ECSS/MIL-STD), CI/CD for mechanical releases, configuration control, and quality systems (ISO 9001 etc.)Knowledge of design and integration of optical elements (lenses, mirrors, filters) into dynamic or thermally challenging environments.Knowledge of or keen interest in the space sector would be an advantageActively engaged in the field of opto-mechanical engineering and continuous professional developmentProposal writing for competitive tenders and research grantsExperience in designing parts for CNC milling manufacturingWhat's In It For YouCareer Growth: Contribute to a world-class space-age communication program while developing your leadership skills in a state-of-the-art manufacturing environmentCollaboration: Work with talented professionals across disciplines to drive impactful solutionsInnovation: Be part of a team pioneering advancements in manufacturing engineering for cutting-edge FSO systemsWork-Life Balance: Enjoy flexible work schedules and a comprehensive benefits packageIf you're ready to take your career to new heights and drive the future of space-age communication, apply now and join the Mbryonics team as our Senior Opto-Mechanical Design Engineer.Diversity, Inclusion and Equal OpportunitiesCore ethical values, diversity and inclusion are invaluable to Mbryonics’ business success.
