About the Role

This position plays a key role in safeguarding Ireland's inland fisheries and sea angling resources.


Key Responsibilities

* Conduct patrols of lakes, rivers, coast, and estuaries to monitor illegal fishing activities.
* Detect and report pollution, collecting samples and gathering information.
* Inspect commercial Salmon & Sea Trout licence holders.
* Verify recreational anglers' licences and permits, ensuring compliance with regulations and bylaws.
* Issue Fixed Penalty Notices as necessary.
* Aid in apprehending offenders, gathering evidence, attending court proceedings, providing reports for legal advisors.
* Provide general assistance to the public.
* Maintain and operate boats.
* Offer shore cover and assist local IFI protection staff on RIB patrols.
* Maintain vehicles, RIBs, and surveillance equipment.
* Support team members during stake-outs at night or early morning.
* Participate in habitat improvement schemes, including improving fisheries access and infrastructure, and enhancement works.
* Conduct research survey work.
* Analyze scientific data, including electro-fishing and netting.
* Catch, measure, examine, and release fish (assessing their health).
* Assist with public inquiries.
* Engage with stakeholders, such as clubs, fishery owners, landowners, interest groups, etc.
* Support angling festivals/competitions and education & outreach programmes.
* Record data and prepare reports, including the Moy catchment angling report.


Requirements

* Leaving Certificate (Level 5 NFQ) or equivalent qualification.
* A valid full Category B driving license in Ireland.
* No convictions under Irish Fisheries Legislation.
* Eligibility to work in Ireland.
* Fluent English skills, both spoken and written.
* Proficiency in computer skills, including MS Office.
* Reside close to base, within at least 60 minutes drive from assigned base location.
* Competence in and on water (both at sea and in lakes and rivers).
* Demonstrate passion/strong interest in promoting, protecting, and conserving natural resources.

Desirable Qualifications

* Experience in a similar environment.
* A valid full Category BE driving license in Ireland, along with ability to tow trailers.
* Holding a valid Safe Pass.
* Experience working with power tools.
* Knowledge of carpentry or general laboring.
* Experience and/or qualifications related to excavator/track machine use.
* Powerboat Level 2.
* Kayaking Level 3.
* Knowledge of fisheries legislation.
