Overview of role:
We are currently recruiting a Facilities Manager at UPMC Aut Even Hospital. The Facilities Manager is responsible for managing services and processes that support the core business of the hospital. The post holder ensures that the hospital provides a suitable working environment for its employees and activities. This role involves both strategic planning and day-to-day operations.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Main areas of responsibility include:
* Health and Safety (including education and training)
* Building, Utilities, and Grounds
* Management of external contracts
* Support services (Housekeeping, Catering, Maintenance, and Portering), Quality, and Patient Safety
Buildings, Utilities, Grounds:
* Ensure buildings and facilities are operated and maintained according to statutory/regulatory requirements.
* Identify and plan for future development needs related to buildings and utility infrastructure.
* Project manage, supervise, and coordinate contractor work.
* Manage planned maintenance and repair of buildings, fixtures, fittings, engineering equipment, utilities, medical equipment, gases, and grounds.
Management of external contracts:
* Utility and Service Equipment
* Laundry
* General and Clinical Waste
* Grounds
* Maintenance
* Security
Responsible for negotiating, managing, and monitoring these contracts, ensuring quality, value for money, and compliance.
In-House Services:
* Overall responsibility for Housekeeping and Catering Departments
* Portering
* Maintenance
* Manage and direct supervisors and staff
* Ensure high standards of customer care and value for money
Health & Safety:
* Lead Health & Safety strategies, policies, procedures, risk assessments, and safe working practices.
* Lead the Safety Committee and Safety Representatives.
* Ensure compliance with statutory/regulatory health and safety requirements.
* Conduct inspections and hazard analyses, recommend and implement corrective actions.
* Provide safety and health training to staff.
Quality & Patient Safety:
* Lead facilities management in quality and patient safety initiatives.
* Lead on Facilities Management Standards under Joint Commission International Accreditation.
General Management:
* Support hospital leadership in achieving quality, safety, and business goals.
* Organize and coordinate Facilities Department operations.
* Participate in meetings and hospital development updates.
* Contribute to performance planning, development policies, and training programs.
Personnel:
Follow uniform policies as applicable.
Qualifications & Experience:
* Third-level qualification and ongoing professional development
* Diploma in Health and Safety or equivalent
* At least 5 years of senior management experience in healthcare or service industry
* Proven track record in facilities management
* Experience managing external maintenance and service contracts
* People management experience
* Knowledge of safety principles and practices
* Excellent communication skills
* Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
* Training development and delivery skills
* Self-disciplined with good time management
* Adaptability to change
