Software Engineer (IT Operations)
Hybrid/Cork (2 days per week required onsite until up to speed, Will then allow more flexible remote work within Ireland)
Initial contract until end of the year with high chance of long term extension
Job Description: Our client, a large financial organisation based in Cork, is seeking a Software Engineer with strong IT Operations expertise to support the migration of their applications to Google Cloud (completion scheduled by end of Q3). The environment is primarily Windows-based (80%), and the role involves both on-premises and cloud-based responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
1. Application Setup: Install application software in test environments.
2. Deployment & Monitoring: Monitor applications, automate deployment processes, and ensure smooth operations.
3. Issue Resolution: Collaborate with development and testing teams to investigate and resolve technical issues.
4. Technical Oversight: Log and follow up on issues while liaising with Development and Infrastructure teams.
5. Reporting & Documentation: Provide regular and consistent reporting to team members and stakeholders.
6. Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process automation and contribute to testing tool development.
Mandatory Skills & Experience
1. Education: University degree in an IT-related discipline, or equivalent work experience.
2. Linux & Windows: Proven experience with Linux environments and strong Windows OS skills (services administration, PowerShell).
3. Databases & Scripting: Proficiency in Oracle SQL and/or MySQL, along with shell scripting.
4. Infrastructure as Code: Hands-on experience with Terraform.
5. Cloud Technologies: Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) for deployment and infrastructure.
Desirable Knowledge
1. Tooling: Exposure to GitHub, Jenkins, Jira, Docker, Kubernetes, or Ansible.
