Bon Secours Health System has a rich history in Limerick, beginning with the acquisition of Barringtons Hospital on George’s Quay in 2017. While the site has served the community well, its limitations led to our vision for a new, state-of-the-art facility to better serve the growing healthcare needs of the region. In 2021, we took the next step towards this vision by breaking ground on the new Bon Secours Hospital Limerick in Towlerton, Ballysimon, with an investment of €190 million. This new hospital is nearing completion, with plans to open in 2025, expanding surgical specialties and introducing new services such as cardiology and MAU.

Medical Secretary

Bon Secours Hospital Limerick at Barringtons is seeking applications from suitably qualified and experienced candidates for the position of Medical Secretary. The successful candidate will have excellent secretarial and administrative skills capable of supporting Consultants in their busy private practice.

The role offers the opportunity to join a progressive team and deliver exceptional care to our patients and their families.

Post: This is a specified purpose (maternity leave cover) position.

Hours of work: Full-time equivalent: 35 hours per week, with flexibility around working days and times.

Essential Eligibility Criteria:

* A minimum of 2 years previous experience in a similar role
* Sound knowledge of medical terminology
* Experience with Patient Management & Practice Management Software
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
* QQI/FETAC Level 5 or equivalent Medical Secretary/Medical Administration qualification (desirable)

Role Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

* Processing all patient-related information promptly, including clinic letters, reports, referrals, appointments, and admissions
* Audio typing duties within specified timeframes
* Handling correspondence within required timeframes
* Booking appointments and coordinating theatre bookings as needed
* Interacting with the hospital patient access team regarding health insurance cover
* Managing invoices for patients, insurers, or third parties to ensure prompt payment
* Maintaining consultants' diaries, organizing meetings, and managing leave arrangements
* Supporting hospital policies, procedures, and initiatives
