**Job Description**Job Title: Software Development Engineering Manager Department & Team: Conversational AI Location: Galway**Summary**The Conversational AI team at Genesys is driving major transformation in both Self-Service and Assisted-Service experiences, delivering better outcomes, enhanced customer experiences, and reduced operational costs.We are seeking a talented Software Development Engineering Manager to lead a high-performing back-end team in building products and services that leverage Generative AI to deliver measurable value for Genesys customers.As a senior member of the Conversational AI team, you will:* Lead a team of developers building AI-powered conversational solutions.
* Contribute to the architecture and code base of the AI Platform.
* Work on tools, infrastructure, and scalability challenges at the intersection of machine learning and software engineering.You will join a collaborative, agile, full-stack team delivering features across front-end, back-end, eventing and storage layers.
Our engineers focus on scale, security, and usability, coding primarily in Python, Java, and JavaScript, while leveraging technologies such as DynamoDB, SQS, Kafka, Jenkins, Git, all on AWS.This role is ideal for a hands-on development manager or a senior technical leader looking to move into Engineering Management.
**Key Responsibilities**People Leadership* Line-manage a high-performing engineering team.
* Conduct regular 1:1s, set performance and development goals, and provide mentorship.
* Deliver timely feedback, performance reviews, and career planning.
* Support team growth through skill development and recruitment.Delivery & Execution* Lead the team to deliver product features aligned with the roadmap.
* Ensure adherence to the SDLC process and Genesys engineering best practices.
* Assign and mentor Feature Leads, ensuring delivery accountability.
* Maintain quality standards across the code base.Product & Domain Expertise* Develop a deep understanding of Conversational AI features, use cases, and related services.
* Collaborate closely with Product Management and Engineering Leadership (3-in-a-box process).
* Actively participate in chartering, storyboarding, and feature check-ins.Service Ownership* Gain and maintain expertise in the service architecture.
* Perform active PR reviews and uphold coding standards.
* Drive focus on resiliency, availability, and performance of the service.
**Minimum Requirements*** Proven track record in a team lead or development manager role, with experience in people management, performance reviews, mentoring, and career development.
* Ability to foster a high-performing engineering culture and support individual growth within the team.
* Hands-on experience as a software developer, ideally in Python, with additional knowledge of Java or JavaScript considered a plus.
* Solid understanding of software engineering fundamentals, design patterns, and best practices.
* Strong knowledge of Cloud Native technologies, preferably AWS, including services such as DynamoDB, SQS, and Kafka.
* Understanding of DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, Git), and automated testing.
* Demonstrated experience working in an Agile environment, collaborating cross-functionally with Product Management, QA, and UX teams.
* Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to represent Engineering in cross-functional forums**Desirable Skills*** Experience with Chatbots or other Conversational AI tools.
* Knowledge of NLU/NLP concepts.
* Exposure to Machine Learning.
* Understanding of the Contact Centre domain.
* Practical knowledge of Generative AI applications.
* Proven track record of building and scaling teams.
