Job Title: Maternity Cover, Community Support Worker, 1 Vacancy

Location: Reach Deaf Supported Living Service

Salary/Hours: Full-Time 36 Hours per week, €35,971.56 Per Annum

Duration: Maternity Leave Cover, 6 to 9 Months

We are recruiting to ensure that the right staff are in place, prepared, trained, and ready to support people as they transition to their new homes. Reach Deaf Services are seeking Support Workers to provide support to the people who live in their own homes in our community service. Our vision is to support people to live an inclusive life with equal opportunities empowering each person to shape and direct their future.

The successful candidates will support individuals in their own homes and support them to develop and hold valued social roles in the community.

This position can include some evenings, sleepovers and weekends. The rate of pay is €35,917.56 per annum to include one weekend per month and inclusion on an on-call roster. Additional Sundays and Bank Holidays are paid at double the time. You will be working as part of a team with the opportunity to have dedicated key working hours to support people to develop skills they need for life in the community.

Key Responsibilities

As a Support Worker, you will play a vital role in helping individuals live full, independent, and meaningful lives. Your day-to-day duties will include:

Empowering Independence – Supporting people to direct their own lives in line with their abilities, interests, and personal goals.

Building Connections – Encouraging and enabling strong, positive relationships with family, friends, and the wider community.

Promoting Inclusion – Assisting individuals to enjoy hobbies, outings, and community activities that enrich their quality of life.

Delivering Compassionate Care – Providing respectful, person-centered support with daily living, personal care, and wellbeing needs.

Supporting Health & Wellbeing – Helping individuals attend appointments, access interpreters if needed, and follow their personal care and health plans.

Encouraging Independence at Home – Assisting with household tasks such as cooking, cleaning, laundry, and managing personal finances.

Safe Medication & Finance Support – With full training, supporting individuals with prescribed medication and financial management, always in line with policies and individual care plans.

Upholding Dignity & Respect – Promoting a culture of empathy, zero tolerance to abuse, and safeguarding the rights and confidentiality of every person.

Team Collaboration – Working with families, colleagues, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, individualized care and support.

Professional Standards & Responsibilities

As a Support Worker, you'll be committed to maintaining the highest standards of care, safety, and professionalism. Your role will include:

Respectful Support – Always acting in a way that values individual choice, independence, and dignity, while ensuring safe practices and positive risk assessments.

Health & Safety – Identifying and reporting incidents or risks, following safety procedures, and protecting the wellbeing of individuals, colleagues, and visitors.

Infection Control – Using protective equipment, maintaining high hygiene standards, and taking prompt action to prevent cross-infection.

Equipment Care – Ensuring all equipment is cleaned, stored, and maintained correctly, and promptly reporting any faults or breakages.

Professional Presentation – Maintaining excellent personal hygiene and presenting a professional image at all times.

Emergency Preparedness – Participating in fire safety, emergency procedures, and other precautionary measures to safeguard everyone in the service.

Compliance & Standards – Working in line with national legislation, safeguarding policies, and healthcare standards to ensure best practice in all aspects of support.

Accident & Incident Reporting – Recording and reporting any accidents or near misses in accordance with service policy.

Continuous Learning – Engaging in regular training (e.g., Positive Behaviour Support, Manual Handling, CPR, Fire Safety, HACCP) to develop skills and deliver the highest quality of care.

Health & Safety

Skills and Experience

We are looking for a new Team member with innovation, excellent communication skills, a record of accomplishment of involvement in their local community, flexibility and creativity. This person will be expected to support people in their everyday life whilst supporting them around the interests of their choice and continuing to explore new areas of interest with them.

Qualifications

* Minimum Level 5 in Social Care, Community Care, Disability Studies Applied Social Studies, Health Care or appropriate equivalent
* Completion of assigned ISL classes and exams through the in-house ISL Tutor program (currently Levels 1 and 2) within the assigned timeframe, or commitment to complete them as required.

Professional Knowledge

* Knowledge of supporting a person to transition from Residential settings to the community.
* Knowledge of Residential Care legislation including HIQA's National Standards for Residential Service for Children and Adults with Disabilities, and others as applicable
* Previous experience of safeguarding adults from Abuse
* Demonstrate sound knowledge of adults with disabilities
* Previous experience in supporting adults in a residential setting
* Willingness to undertake further education
