Role Overview
The Group Financial Controller will lead Group financial reporting, consolidation, controls and audit, while supporting strategic initiatives including M&A and integration. This is a senior leadership role within Group Finance, with responsibility for high‑quality reporting, strong governance and team development.
Key Responsibilities
Group Financial & Statutory Reporting
Lead the preparation and delivery of the Group Annual Report and interim financial statements in compliance with IFRS and regulatory requirements.
Manage Group audit relationships and coordinate audits across all subsidiaries to agreed timelines.
Oversee subsidiary statutory accounts, ensuring consistent accounting policies, disclosures and governance across the Group.
Drive the implementation of new and evolving IFRS standards.
Management Reporting & Consolidation
Own the Group month‑end close and consolidation process, ensuring timely, accurate and insightful management reporting.
Enforce strong balance‑sheet control, including reconciliations, reviews and robust control frameworks.
Own and develop the Group consolidation system (SAP BPC or similar), ensuring data integrity and continuous improvement.
Provide clear financial insight and commentary to the Executive Team and senior stakeholders.
Internal Controls, Risk & Continuous Improvement
Design, implement and maintain a strong Group‑wide internal control environment aligned to best‑practice PLC standards.
Lead process simplification, standardisation and automation initiatives to improve efficiency and governance.
Partner closely with Treasury, Tax, FP&A, Internal Audit and Divisional Finance teams to manage risk and financial control.
M&A, Integration & Strategic Support
Support financial due diligence for acquisitions, including accounting assessments and quality of earnings analysis.
Lead acquisition accounting, including purchase price allocation, fair value assessments and goodwill calculations.
Support the financial integration of acquisitions into Group systems, reporting and controls.
Provide financial expertise for strategic decision‑making and key Group initiatives.
Leadership & People
Lead, mentor and develop a high‑performing Group Reporting team (approx. 4 direct reports).
Foster a strong culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous development.
Act as a senior finance leader, supporting the Group Finance Director and working closely with business leaders.
Other
Oversee the Group insurance programme.
Lead finance‑related transformation and improvement projects as required.
Experience & Qualifications
Qualified ACA / ACCA with c.5+ years PQE (Big 4 background preferred).
Experience in a Group / PLC environment with strong technical accounting and IFRS expertise.
Proven audit management and statutory reporting experience.
Strong systems capability; SAP or similar consolidation tools highly desirable.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate technical issues into business insight.
Demonstrated leadership experience with a track record of building and developing teams.
