Job Title: Technical Specialist for Digital Evidence

The Deputy Head of Confidential Unit will play a key role in supporting the Head of Confidential Unit in ensuring the smooth operation of the unit. This involves providing management resilience and overseeing processes related to sensitive information, analytical services, and disclosure processes.

">

Key Responsibilities:

">
">
* Support the Impact Department by working collaboratively with other teams and units within the department.
">
* Provide management resilience for the CU, including supervision of processes for requesting, handling, and retention of sensitive information.
">
* Perform gatekeeping duties in respect of applications under the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act (RIPA) and the Investigative Powers Commissioners Office (IPCO).
">
* Manage records of all records held, created, or used as part of the business, including corporate and administrative records.
">
* Oversee Single Point of Contact (SPOC) communications data applications in relation to requests for information from social media providers.
">
* Lead on Open Source research, ensuring all such activity is undertaken by trained members of the CU, in compliance with related legislated and CU practice.
">
* Ensure compliance with Section 75 duties of the Northern Ireland Act 1998.
">

TSU Responsibilities:

">
">
* Extract information from digital devices, including mobile telephones.
">
* Develop analytical products derived from communications data, open source research, and extractions from digital devices/systems.
">
* Coordinate relationships with stakeholders in the use of digital resources.
">
* Attend investigations case conferences to provide advice on digital solutions.
">
* Manage inspections of PONI by IPCO to ensure organisational compliance.
">

Requirements:

">
">
* Substantive Deputy Principal Grade or equivalent experience.
">
* Develop Vetted Security Clearance or willingness to attain.
">
* Technical expertise in digital evidence gathering and wider IT skills.
">
* Working knowledge of operational application of powers regulated by RIPA and IPA.
">
* Leadership experience in managing staff and effective working relationships.
">
* Desirable criteria: experience of conducting Open Source Research and writing complex reports.
">
