Position Summary: The Machinist is responsible for setting up and operating a range of machine tools to manufacture highprecision parts and components.
The role involves fabricating, modifying, and repairing mechanical parts, tools, and equipment, as well as maintaining industrial machinery as required.
The position requires a strong understanding of mechanical principles, workshop mathematics, material properties, technical drawings, and machining processes.
Responsibilities: Interpret engineering drawings and specifications Attach fixtures to machine and position and secures work piece in fixture according to setup instructions.
Select and install proper cutting tools.
Load programs in machine control unit or enter commands to retrieve machine instructions from database.
Manipulate controls and enter commands to index cutting tool to specified set point and to start machine.
Observe and listen to machine operations to detect malfunctions such as worn or damaged cutting tools.
Change cutting tools and location of work piece during machining process as specified in instructions.
Carry out quality inspection on finished components to ensure quality standards are adhered to.
Machine high tolerance components to drawing specifications using primarily lathe and milling machines.
Fabricate specialty parts.
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area in accordance with company standards.
Ability to travel when required.
Provide input into process improvements and continuous improvement initiatives.
Requirements Leaving Certificate or equivalent A minimum of 2 years' postqualification experience in a workshop environment.
At least 2 years' experience in Mechanical Field.
Able to lift a minimum of 23 kilograms.
Required to stand for long periods of time and may involve heavy manual labor.
You will need to be able to stand, sit, walk, bend, stoop, reach, lift, push, pull, and carry items.
Ability to work in environments with elevated noise levels.
Ability to wear personal protective equipment.
Previous experience with Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma Desirable Skills Previous experience with CNC Machinery.
Ability to Programme CNC Equipment.
