New Business Team Manager - Wholesale Reporting to: Head of Wholesale / Managing Director Role Overview The New Business Team Manager - Wholesale is a key leadership role responsible for building, managing, and scaling a high-performing new business function.
This role owns the end-to-end new business engine, ensuring consistent pipeline flow, strong conversion rates, and a high-quality broker experience.
You will lead a young, ambitious team, bringing structure, pace, and discipline to drive sustainable growth.
This is a hands-on leadership role, combining sales management, trading oversight, and market engagement, with a clear focus on delivering repeatable, predictable revenue performance .
Key Priorities - First 6 Months
1. Build a Disciplined, Repeatable New Business Engine Take full ownership of the new business pipeline (intake ? quote ? bind ? handover) Implement clear forecasting, reporting, and pipeline visibility Establish a structured operating rhythm (pipeline reviews, conversion tracking, cadence) Reduce reliance on ad hoc wins and build consistent, scalable growth
2. Embed Strong Trading Effectiveness Market Credibility Strengthen relationships with underwriters and London Market partners Set clear placement strategies balancing speed, coverage, pricing, and sustainability Improve consistency and quality of trading decisions across the team Build credibility with brokers through reliable delivery and strong outcomes
3. Create a High-Performance Team Operating Rhythm Implement clear KPIs, accountability, and performance standards Lead day-to-day activity: reporting, pipeline reviews, and team guidance Conduct regular one-to-ones, coaching sessions, and CPD development Build a culture of ownership, pace, and continuous improvement Reduce dependency on the manager by developing team capability Key Responsibilities New Business Leadership Revenue Delivery Lead and develop a wholesale new business team to achieve monthly and annual revenue targets Drive strong conversion performance through structured sales management Create clarity around targets, activity levels, and outcomes Pipeline Management Sales Discipline Own and manage the full sales pipeline from prospect to bind Ensure pipeline quality, accuracy, and visibility at all times Identify leakage, blockages, and opportunities to improve performance Use data and reporting to drive decision-making and forecasting Trading Market Engagement Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, insurers, and London Market partners Support placement strategies across a range of commercial products Ensure consistency in trading quality and execution Attend broker meetings and market engagements as required Team Leadership Development Lead a young, growing team with energy and clear direction Manage day-to-day activity including reporting, volume management, and performance tracking Deliver coaching, CPD support, and ongoing development Act as a senior escalation point where required Broker Experience Ensure a high-quality, consistent experience for broker partners Improve responsiveness, communication, and delivery standards Strengthen the business's reputation as a trusted wholesale partner Operational Excellence Work closely with Operations, Finance, and Compliance to support growth Drive continuous improvement across systems, workflows, and processes Ensure alignment with overall business strategy and growth plans About You Experience 8+ years' experience in wholesale broking, commercial broking, or underwriting Proven experience leading or mentoring a team (Team Lead / Manager level) Strong exposure to new business trading and pipeline management Experience dealing with brokers and insurers regularly London Market experience advantageous Skills Behaviours Strong leader and coach who can develop and guide a team Highly organised with strong reporting and pipeline management skills Commercially driven with a strong focus on conversion and results Confident communicator with strong broker and market presence Structured, disciplined, and process-driven Comfortable managing volume in a fast-paced environment Qualifications CIP (minimum), with progress toward ACII / MDI desirable Strong technical understanding of commercial insurance products Why This Role?
