This role is vital to the smooth running of our yard and fabrication facility, supporting the movement, storage, and handling of steel materials and finished products.
Job Outline:
The Yard Operative / Forklift Driver will be responsible for the safe and efficient handling of steel materials, including loading and unloading deliveries, organising yard inventory, and ensuring materials are readily available for fabrication and dispatch. This is a hands-on role in a busy steel fabrication environment, requiring attention to detail, good organisational skills, and a commitment to health and safety.
Key Responsibilities:
* Operate forklifts to load, unload, and move steel sections, plates, and fabricated items around the yard and workshop.
* Assist with receiving and checking incoming deliveries of raw materials and components.
* Prepare and load finished steelwork for transport to sites, ensuring correct handling and securing of loads.
* Organise and maintain the steel yard, ensuring materials are stored safely, logically, and accessibly.
* Assist fabrication teams by delivering materials to work areas as needed.
* Carry out general yard duties including housekeeping, tidying, and waste disposal.
* Follow company procedures for stock control, tagging, and recording of material movements.
* Conduct routine equipment checks and report any defects or safety issues.
* Adhere strictly to health and safety protocols, particularly when handling heavy and awkward loads.
* Support the wider operations team with additional tasks as required.
Skills & Requirements:
* Valid forklift licence (counterbalance ).
* Previous experience working in a steel fabrication, construction, or heavy manufacturing environment preferred.
* Comfortable handling heavy steel sections and working in an outdoor/industrial yard environment.
* Strong understanding of safe manual handling practices and yard safety protocols.
* Good communication skills and ability to work well as part of a team.
* Basic understanding of material types and steel sections is an advantage.
* Reliable, punctual, and organised with a strong work ethic.
* Flexibility to work overtime or support workshop/site activities when needed.

Pay: From €13.50 per hour
Expected hours: 39 per week
