Senior Bridge Engineer – Transport
Location: Cork, Dublin or Galway
Purpose & Scope Of The Role
As a Senior Bridge Engineer within our Transport and Civils division, you will lead the delivery of complex bridge projects across Ireland and the UK. This role involves managing design packages for major highways, rail, and urban infrastructure projects, ensuring compliance with Irish and UK standards, and maintaining technical excellence throughout the project lifecycle. You will act as a technical lead within multidisciplinary teams, mentor junior engineers, and uphold quality assurance and BIM procedures. This position offers opportunities for global collaboration and career progression within an international consultancy.
Your Impact In This Position
In the short term, you will deliver design packages for large-scale transport projects, mentor designers, and support project management and resource planning. Over the medium term, you will take ownership of new projects, managing them through inception, design, construction, and handover, while driving innovation and maintaining compliance with the latest standards. In the long term, you will progress into senior leadership within the Transport and Civils sector, shaping strategy, identifying new opportunities, and strengthening client relationships through a portfolio of successfully delivered projects.
Core Capabilities
Bridge Design Standards and Structural Analysis: Excellent knowledge of the structural Eurocodes and Irish and UK bridge design standards (DMRB). Strong background in analysis of bridges and structures using structural analysis software; experience with Midas Civil is beneficial.
Bridges & Structures Design Expertise: Deep technical knowledge and hands‑on experience in the design/assessment of reinforced and prestressed concrete structures and steel/composite bridges. Ability to mentor junior colleagues and guide technical delivery.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement: Technical lead for the bridge team within multidisciplinary design teams; coordinate design packages, act as technical contact for clients, local authorities, and external consultants; resolve technical queries and communicate complex concepts clearly.
Technical Documentation and Contract Knowledge: Produce high‑quality technical documentation, reports, and have working knowledge of typical contract forms, especially GCCC suite of Public Works Contracts.
Qualifications & Experience
Level 8 Honours Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering; minimum 7 years’ relevant experience in bridges and structures engineering.
Working towards Chartered status (CEng, MIEI, MICE, MIStructE or equivalent).
Desirable: Level 9 Master’s, Chartered Engineer status, experience in bridge inspections, project management, and knowledge of NEC contracts.
Working Environment
This role is based in Dublin, Cork, Galway or Kilkenny, with hybrid working and agile office arrangements. Office attendance will be balanced to meet project and client needs, supporting flexible working for work‑life balance. Travel to client sites and project locations across Ireland will be required on an occasional basis.
