Automation Controls Engineer Job Description
This role involves designing, developing, programming, testing, and maintaining automation systems for high-speed medical device filling and packaging lines. The primary goal is to ensure the efficient production of medical devices while meeting regulatory requirements.
* Job Responsibilities:
* Design, develop, program, and commission PLC (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens), HMI, and SCADA systems for new and existing filling, capping, and packaging equipment.
* Develop and implement control strategies for complex automation sequences, including motion control, robotics, and vision systems, specific to medical device filling processes.
* Troubleshoot and debug automation systems, identifying and resolving issues related to software, hardware, and electrical components to minimize downtime.
* Perform system integration, testing, and validation activities (IQ, OQ, PQ) in accordance with regulatory requirements (FDA, GMP, ISO).
* Work with vendors and external partners for equipment upgrades, installations, and technical support.
Requirements
Essential Qualifications:
* Education:
* Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, automation engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
* Experience:
* 10+ years of experience in automation and controls engineering in a regulated manufacturing environment (medical device, pharmaceutical, biotech, or highly regulated food/beverage).
* Skills:
* Proven experience with PLC programming (e.g., Rockwell Automation, Siemens) and HMI development for complex machinery.
* Strong understanding of servo motion control, robotics, and machine vision systems.
* Experience in development of user requirements specifications.
* Experience with validation methodologies (IQ, OQ, PQ) in a GMP environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Previous Experience:
* Automated filling, capping, labelling, or packaging equipment, preferably within a manufacturing setting.
