Project Engineer (Mechanical)
Location: Kilkenny
Duration: Permanent
Work Hours/Schedule: Office/site based and WFH – Monday to Friday role
Overview of the Role
Due to continued success and growth across the Water division, Veolia is looking for an enthusiastic Project Engineer to join the Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) Team. The successful candidate will work on a wide scope of Water and Wastewater Treatment projects across the Island of Ireland, coordinating with a multi‑disciplined team (process, mechanical, civil, structural, electrical) from early design through to construction and commissioning.
The Project Engineer will assist in the design, development and delivery of contracts, prepare documentation for client submissions, manage sub‑consultant and supplier submissions, prepare regulatory Health & Safety documentation, detailed design, tendering and construction packages. During delivery, they will liaise with design teams, suppliers, subcontractors, installers and commissioning teams to ensure projects are delivered on schedule, within budget and according to contractual requirements.
Day to Day of the Role

Take ownership of delegated projects and project issues
Ensure thorough knowledge and understanding of the contract for all assigned projects
Evaluate client specifications and liaise with client and client representatives
Communicate with the Project Manager, Design Leads and Sub‑Consultants during project execution
Interact with the multi‑disciplined engineering team, contributing to final design, equipment selection and procurement activities
Organise, co‑coordinate and manage design activities while maintaining Health & Safety standards in line with Veolia policies
Manage project aspects within defined budgets and agreed timelines through monitoring and tracking for adherence to the project brief and programme
Apply procedures related to contract execution

Required Skills for the Role

Minimum NFQ Level 7 degree in Engineering (Mechanical Engineering preferable) and/or Science Discipline
Practical site experience (desired)
Experience as part of a project team from initial stages to delivery
Managing design/site activities including team coordination
Ability to work on own initiative and effectively manage design/site activities
Experience in water/wastewater engineering projects desirable
IT skills: Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint
Good organisational and time‑management skills
Self‑motivated, strong communication and writing skills
