Responsibilities
The School of Natural Sciences wishes to appoint an E3 Geospatial Technical Officer to support and strengthen the School’s existing teaching and research activities. The School is particularly active in the domains of Applied Earth Observation (in‑situ, UAV, aerial and satellite) and GIS, with a focus on terrestrial (e.g. coastal, glacial, and wetlands) and non‑terrestrial (e.g. Mars) geomorphology as well as on urban environments. Staff also use GIS and remote sensing to teach and research key societal challenges.
Staff also collaborate with the School’s close links with the other E3 Schools: Computer Science and Statistics, and Engineering, enhancing interdisciplinary teaching and research across the School of Natural Sciences (Disciplines of Botany, Geography, Geology and Zoology) and within the Centre for the Environment.
The role holder will work in a busy office environment, engaging daily with both undergraduate and postgraduate students as well as staff. The role also involves collaborating with internal college offices, support services, external institutions, and regulatory bodies, and actively contributing to activities at the college, school and discipline levels. The role holder must be motivated, dynamic and possess excellent interpersonal skills and a proactive attitude to high‑quality work with a strong attention to detail.
Job Details
This is a permanent full‑time role in Ireland. We require that you hold immigration permission that allows full‑time employment in this role. For this position we will not be able to support new employment permit applications.
Hours of Post: 36.5 hours per week.
Salary
Appointment will be made on the Technical Officer Pay Scale at a point in line with Government Pay Policy (€40,743 to €61,557 per annum). New entrants to the public sector will be appointed on Point 1 of the scale, €40,743 per annum.
Qualifications
Entry to the profession will require a relevant Honours degree. National Certificate on entry is required. For existing staff (before 1 January 2007) the preferred candidate is an MSc holder on entry, with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, who may be appointed at Senior Technical Officer level.
