Postdoctoral Researcher – Polymer Chemist RestOAre - School of Medicine 011410
This position is funded by Enterprise Ireland as part of the Disruptive Technologies Innovation Fund (DTIF) initiative and is available from 1 April 2025 until the contract end date of 31 March 2026 (with the possibility of extension subject to funding availability).
The successful candidate will primarily manage research tasks in polymer chemistry for the DTIF project, liaising with internal research collaborators at the University of Galway and the industrial partner. The role involves supporting the development of novel drug prototypes through the characterization and formulation of advanced drug delivery systems for the treatment of osteoarthritis.
Key responsibilities:
* Generate research and innovation impacts for the project, coordinating activities, organizing tasks, and managing work packages related to the chemical aspects of the DTIF project.
* Conduct cutting‑edge research in polymer chemistry, including characterization of polymers as solids and in solution.
* Apply advanced knowledge of drug delivery systems in the development of novel drug prototypes.
* Perform in‑vitro testing and translational activities.
* Write technical reports and prepare scientific publications.
Qualifications:
* PhD in polymer chemistry, chemical engineering, pharmaceutical sciences, or a related field.
* Strong background in polymer characterization techniques.
* Experience with drug delivery system development and in‑vitro testing.
* Demonstrated ability to conduct independent, high‑impact research.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Location: CPRL lab, Discipline of Physiology, University of Galway, supervised by Prof Leo Quinlan.
Salary: €46,305 – €59,063 per annum (subject to project funding), pro rata for shorter/part‑time contracts.
