Offer description

12 Months, Specific Purpose, Part-Time Post Position Summary Ambitious climate services that take a standardised and societal approach are urgently needed considering the climate crisis.

Climate services are regularly implemented in a sector specific manner, meaning research is needed to better understand where multi-sector and cascading risks can be identified, managed, and modelled.

This research fellow will be part of the team funded by the Met ireann Translate project, CLIMB (Climate Services for Multi-Sector Benefits).

The Research Fellow will be responsible for delivering three key objectives: Develop effective communication strategies that support the integration of climate information and uncertainty through climate storylines.

This will be implemented by combining multi-sector participant needs identified through workshops with robust scientific knowledge to design an accessible Virtual Reality (VR) communication strategy.

This embodied and immersive experience will increase user comprehension and risk-based decision making, assisting with future mitigation and adaptation to climate change and weather events for specialised and non-specialised audiences Develop narrative-based storylines on Translate multi-sector case studies and high priority concerns identified through workshops to a range of end-users (e.g., stakeholders, sectors, public, youth groups).

These storylines will showcase the potential consequences of climate change.

Assess the impact of immersive VR and narrative-based storyline strategies on the end-users to identify the most successful and beneficial approaches of climate science communication.

This will identify whether certain strategies or approaches are more applicable across a diverse society, and support knowledge transfer to Met ireann in disseminating key climate related information.
