Purpose of the Post
The CNM3 Cancer Services role is vital to delivering seamless care for all patients accessing the service. The post holder plays a pivotal role within a multidisciplinary team and contributes to the management, planning, coordination, and evaluation of cancer services for patients and their families. Responsibilities include maintaining the cancer database, communicating patient values, and ensuring optimal treatment planning.
The post holder will identify new and existing services to deliver a patient‑focused service and maintain links with Nurse Specialists, Business Managers for Oncology and Surgery, and other professionals in all referring hospitals. They will attend multidisciplinary meetings, initiate and implement patient treatment plans, and oversee quality of nursing care, development of policies and procedures, and monitoring of activity.
In this role, the CNM3 provides clinical and professional leadership, promotes the values of the organisation, and supports the National Cancer Control Programme (NCCP) and HIQA standards. The post holder works closely with the multidisciplinary team and internal/external stakeholders to deliver the cancer strategy.
Designated Cancer Care Centre
CUH is one of the nine designated cancer centres in the HSE National Cancer Care Programme and one of two centres in the southern region. Cancer services include Rapid Access Clinics, Cancer Diagnostics, Surgical Cancer Treatments, Haematology Oncology, Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Chemotherapy, Radiotherapy, Psycho‑oncology and Cancer Trials. Services primarily serve residents of Cork, Kerry, South Tipperary, West Waterford and South East Limerick.
