We provide a wide range of surgical care across multiple specialties and offer 24/7 Stepdown, Minor Injuries, and Rapid Access services in collaboration with the HSE.Role SummaryThe Senior Respiratory Physiologist provides expert diagnostic, analytical, and clinical expertise in the assessment and management of patients with respiratory and sleep disorders. The role focuses on delivering safe, accurate, and patient-centred care, ensuring the highest technical and clinical standards are maintained. The post holder will perform and interpret a wide range of diagnostic tests, contribute to service development, oversee equipment and data quality assurance, and support education and mentorship of junior staff.Key ResponsibilitiesClinical & Technical DutiesPerform and interpret a full range of respiratory investigations including spirometry, diffusion studies, lung volumes, reversibility testing, bronchoprovocation challenges, and allergy testing.Conduct and analyse full and limited polysomnography studies and CPAP titration.Ensure the accuracy and validity of diagnostic data, maintaining meticulous patient records.Provide clear explanations of tests and results to patients in an empathetic and understandable manner.Participate in multidisciplinary team discussions and clinical case reviews.Promote patient education and self-management strategies for respiratory health.Equipment & Resource ManagementOversee the daily calibration, servicing, and maintenance of diagnostic equipment.Liaise with clinical engineering and suppliers regarding maintenance and equipment updates.Ensure adherence to data protection, infection control, and patient safety standards.Support the development of Standard Operating Procedures and quality control processes.Leadership, Quality & Risk ManagementLead by example in promoting evidence-based, patient-centred care.Participate in internal audits, quality improvement initiatives, and accreditation processes.Support implementation of hospital quality and safety frameworks, policies, and best practice guidelines.Contribute to the training, supervision, and mentoring of junior physiologists and students where applicable.Engage in incident reporting and review processes in line with the organisation's risk management policy.Service Development & InnovationContribute to the ongoing development and enhancement of respiratory diagnostic and sleep services.Support the integration of new technologies, digital reporting systems, and home-based testing initiatives.Participate in service planning and review processes to ensure clinical effectiveness and efficiency.Audit, Data Quality & Clinical GovernanceLead or participate in regular audits to monitor test accuracy, reporting quality, and departmental performance.Ensure compliance with data protection, patient confidentiality, and information governance standards.Support the preparation of clinical data and quality metrics for accreditation or inspection purposes.Research & Evidence-Based PracticeEngage with current research and evidence to inform best practice and innovation in respiratory diagnostics.Participate in quality improvement or research projects to advance clinical knowledge and service standards.Promote the dissemination of evidence-based practice through training sessions, meetings, or publications.Education & Professional DevelopmentMaintain professional competence and participate in ongoing education and training.Contribute to the development of in-service training and education programmes.Support the integration of research and innovation into respiratory diagnostics and patient care.Adhere to the professional code of conduct and ethical guidelines.Essential Criteria - Knowledge/ ExperienceHold a recognised BSc Degree in Medical Physics and Physiological Measurement or equivalent qualification.Minimum of 3 years' post-qualification experience in a Respiratory or Sleep Laboratory.Demonstrated competence in the performance and interpretation of a wide range of respiratory investigations.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage patients and colleagues effectively.Proven ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skillsSkills/ Competencies **Technical and Professional ExpertiseDemonstrates expert knowledge and proficiency in respiratory and sleep diagnostics, applying best practice standards and maintaining awareness of technological and scientific developments.Leadership & ManagementLeads by example, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
